West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds
Advantages: bright and airy inside, very good view of stage from seats, good shows, friendly staff
Disadvantages: not right in the centre of town -across a very busy main road, lots of bushes for muggers to hide bahind at night , expensive bar
...the signs to the city centre and you will arrive on Regent Street. Landmarks to look out for include a Renault Garage, a Pratt's furniture store and Floors-to-Go. You will also see signs for West Yorkshire Playhouse and Quarry Hill and a red and blue bridge directly ahead of you. As you approach the bridge, bear left off the carriageway, into the Quarry Hill site. Go straight ahead and then turn left into the car park or go straight on for the drop off point and disabled parking.
If you are coming by car from the south (London, Wakefield, Sheffield you come up the M1)
Coming off the M1 and then the M621, come off at Junction 3 and when the road splits get in the right hand lane towards Leeds City Centre and stay in lane. Follow the road past MSF Peugeot and Halfords on your left, again staying in the right hand lane. Follow the road round...

A taste of Leeds
Advantages: A proper cup of tea
Disadvantages: none
...Now I`m not a huge tea drinker, I`m more of a coffee person, but sometimes I need a drink that`s not so harsh on the palate. Seeing as I`m a Yorkie lass born and bred, then there can really only be one brand of tea for me. Being brought up, or should I say dragged up in the heart of Leeds, as far I know the rumours about us Yorkies liking a piece of cole to dip in our tea is just not true.
Most Yorkies do prefer a deeply stewed cup of tea though, but I`m not your typical yorkshire lass. I prefer my tea very weak, that`s why I choose to drink Yorkshire tea. Some teabags can give you quite a strong taste even when only dunked for a minute or two, that`s where Yorkshire tea differs. Depending on the dunking time, you will get varying strengths and tastes.
I prefer to dunk mine with a spoon for a maximum of about ten seconds, that way...

Lovely Leeds
Advantages: Lots to see and do
Disadvantages: The weather can be disappointing
...I have lived in Leeds all my life, studied here, and have now settled here post uni. I have lived in more rural areas, out of town suburbs, studentville, and even dabbled in some almost city living. It's one of those cities that has been experiencing a boom over the last twenty or so years, overtaking the other cities of West Yorkshire to become the largest, and arguably most successful. Traditionally it really began to develop as a municipality from the beginnings of the industrial revolution, being at the centre of the woollen industry, and has a long history with textiles. Just look at how Marks and Spencer began!
Nowadays, it has hard to class Leeds as one thing in particular - different areas all function as independent towns whilst being part of the larger Leeds - and with most cities has it's share of division. It's not...

Ahhh! Yorkshire
Advantages: Can use just one. Authentic taste
Disadvantages: Not really big enough for my liking and not the same as home-made!
...Having a fussy eater as a son means that I've become a little more "experimental" in the food that's available in the house. In desperation I've tried products that I wouldn't have dreamed of buying before having children. Sometimes this is just to offer variety, other times it's for convenience.
Yorkshire puds have to be one of the easiest things to make. There's nothing fancy in the batter and, when you're cooking a roast it's no hassle to slip a tray in the top oven. However, upon discovering that my son actually liked these and having had little success in freezing home-made pies I decided to try some of the ready-made versions so that, when offering my son a roast mid-week (made from a roast that my husband and I have most likely shared the night before) I can also offer a pud alongside.

The Forbidden Corner; Disneyland, Yorkshire
Advantages: Lots of fun and adventure
Disadvantages: could be in trouble if you have a week bladder
...***Please note my review is of a specific attraction "The Forbidden Corner" in North Yorkshire and not a review on Yorkshire as a whole. I have posted the review here for now as there seems to be a hitch with the product listing***
I was first made aware of The Forbidden Corner after my brother and his girlfriend returned following a visit one day this summer. They seemed incredibly mesmerised by the place, however, upon probing them for a detailed explanation of exactly what The Forbidden Corner was I was delivered only excited remarks about clues & riddles, secret passages and sleeping giants. The word enchanting was overused to an unnatural extent in their accounts, and after both failing miserably to provide me with a concrete answer they just suggested it was probably best if I visit the place for myself.

When is Leeds found in Kent?
Advantages: A truly lovely castle
Disadvantages: Pricey entrance fee for one visit
...Leeds Castle
Leeds Castle is not in Leeds, which may come as a surprise to some people, but is near Maidstone in Kent. It is known as Leeds castle because way back in Saxon times it was The Manor house of Esledes which became a fortified castle in about 1119. The name Esledes became shortened in speech to Ledes which in turn became Leeds. This castle has had a long and interesting history from this time forward.
How to get there:
By road: Junction 8 of the M20 between London and the Channel ports.
Combined coach and castle entrance tickets with National express www.nationalexpress.com
By rail: Trains daily from London Victoria to Bearsted Station. Then a coach shuttle service operates by Spot Hire from Bearsted Station. £5 return trip adults and £3 for children. See www.spothire.co.uk
A Potted History:
In Tudor times Henry VIII...

A nice Yorkshire beach
Advantages: Good quality bathing
Disadvantages: No facilities on beach
...Filey Beach stretches for 10 kilometres and sits within a natural bay on the rugged east cost of Yorkshire. To the north of the beach lie steep sandstone cliffs whilst to the south there are sheer limestone cliffs. These white limestone cliffs extend south to Flamborough Head and onto Bempton Cliffs, the highest sea cliffs in England. During the summer months these cliffs are home to many thousands of breeding seabirds; predominantly guillemots, razorbills, puffins, kittiwakes and fulmars.
Filey is an ancient fishing village that grew up around the bay. It has a rich history with the sea and everywhere you look there are references to it. At the side of the jetty there is a RNLI lifeboat station that has saved dozens of lives over the years. Whilst at the side of this there are a few café's and gift shops but it is a lot smaller...

Yorkshire Tea - Pricey but Nicey
Advantages: Yorkshire Gold is the Best
Disadvantages: overpriced
...Yorkshire tea for Yorkshire water, that is what they used to say on the advert, for Yorkshire folk, as well I think. The advert was a load of twaddle, but I must say I do like the tea, coming from Yorkshire I suppose I ought to if the advert is to be believed.
There are three varieties of Yorkshire tea, they are the ordinary Yorkshire tea, Yorkshire tea for hard water areas (anywhere south of Yorkshire maybe) and Yorkshire Gold the premium tea just that bit more special, and a bit more expensive.
The first is regular Yorkshire tea, personally I do not like it, it has no real flavour no body no after taste, fullness, you name it, its really not worth the money, and even the ordinary tea is a bit more expensive than other everyday tea bag teas like Tetley, PG tips, Ty-phoo and the like. It is disappointingly flat and un refreshing...

Culture in Yorkshire
Advantages: Good exhibits, easy to get to
Disadvantages: None
...When we went to visit friends in Yorkshire in the summer we stopped of at the Yorkshire sculpture park. We have meant to visit before, but somehow never have.
This park was founded 1977 at, West Bretton, Wakefield. Originally a large house on a parkland of some 500 acres This Park is very easy to get to as it is only one mile from junction 38 of the M1. There was quite a lot of parking which costs £2.00 entrance to the park itself is free.
We got there after taking 5 hours to get there from near Lupton it usually takes about 3, So were tired and in need of a cup of tea so we went into the café / restaurant.
The tea was good about the same price you pay anywhere and there was a terrific view over the parkland with the hills as a backdrop .The restaurant was on the first floor and there was an outside balcony you could sit on if...

'Ard Water, Not With Yorkshire Tea!
Advantages: Smells and Tastes Great
Disadvantages: Bit Pricey With An Aftertaste Some May Not Like
...Amongst the dreaded bills in today's post was a small white jiffy bag. Like a child in a sweet shop it had to be opened first, mainly because I couldn't remember what freebie I'd ordered! Inside was a green box containing Yorkshire Tea bags, not just any tea bag but Taylors of Harrogate's special blend for hard water and ten of them at that.
Pictures of rural Yorkshire adorn the box and for a few moments memories came flooding back to me. I was born 11 miles from Harrogate and the pictures returned me to the countryside I played in as a child. I was also reminded of trips with my grandparents to Harrogate market where after a busy morning, my Gran took me to Betty's Tea Rooms (part of the Taylors empire) while my Grandad sampled more than his share of Yorkshire ale. Such was the impression the box made on me.
Right that's memory...
