West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds
Review of WY Playhouse (Leeds) by
ginger59
Advantages: bright and airy inside, very good view of stage from seats, good shows, friendly staff
Disadvantages: not right in the centre of town -across a very busy main road, lots of bushes for muggers to hide bahind at night , expensive bar
...the signs to the city centre and you will arrive on Regent Street. Landmarks to look out for include a Renault Garage, a Pratt's furniture store and Floors-to-Go. You will also see signs for West Yorkshire Playhouse and Quarry Hill and a red and blue bridge directly ahead of you. As you approach the bridge, bear left off the carriageway, into the Quarry Hill site. Go straight ahead and then turn left into the car park or go straight on for the drop off point and disabled parking.
If you are coming by car from the south (London, Wakefield, Sheffield you come up the M1)
Coming off the M1 and then the M621, come off at Junction 3 and when the road splits get in the right hand lane towards Leeds City Centre and stay in lane. Follow the road past MSF Peugeot and Halfords on your left, again staying in the right hand lane. Follow the road round...

South Yorkshire - A Summary In Under 1800 Words.
Review of South Yorkshire In General by
micksheff
Advantages: Lots of contrast, Plenty of attractions and history
Disadvantages: Quite Industrial in areas
..., to name just a couple.
South Yorkshire is a very accessible County that is served by four different Motorways. These are the M1, A1(M), M18, and the M180. The M1 is the most principal of these routes cutting straight through the County on its route from Nottingham to Leeds. Sheffield and all of the major towns are all within a very short distance of the Motorway links.
The topography of South Yorkshire is a very varied one. The high Mountains of the Pennines and the Peak District National Park lie along its Western borders whilst to the East the land is very flat, and much of this is actually below Sea Level. This leads to great contrast in the landscape of the Region. The highest point above Sea level in South Yorkshire is on Howden Edge, not surprisingly on the Eastern fringes of the County. This is 1800 feet high (500 metres...

Leeds is Alright Believe Me
Review of Leeds in general by
ashford
Advantages: Lively Night Life. Good Sports Facilities. Good Food
Disadvantages: The weather at times
...When I lived in East Yorkshire I was a fairly regular visitor to Leeds, which some Yorkshiremen claim is the “…Capital of the North”. I always enjoyed my visits which usually involved shopping, having tea at the Sri Lankan tea centre and supping a pint or two at a pub. This friendly city certainly is a thriving commercial and industrial place which has a multi-cultural makeup and also is a major cultural and sporting centre.
Shopping wise Leeds rates well. The city, like Cardiff, has some attractive Victorian shopping arcades as well as modern, one-stop shopping complexes. The Coin Exchange with its ornate balustrades, elegant stairways and Victorian décor is a great place to shop in whilst just about every conceivable type of foodstuff can be bought of Kirlegate Market, where there are in excess of 800 traders...

God's own country..and mine..Yorkshire
Review of Yorkshire (England) by
ginger59
Advantages: variety, the people, not expensive, scenery,
Disadvantages: it's quite cold sometimes!
...pubs, brewed at the brewery in Masham is fabulous..and you can visit the brewery for a taste.
The Yorkshire coast includes resorts such as Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington- great for a day out and fish and chips on the quayside or the prom. Great sandy beaches for playing football or making sandcastles as well.
We have Big Cities such as Leeds, Bradford and York, where you can shop, go to the theatre, sightsee and enjoy the nightlife.
SPORT>>>>>Good football teams...Leeds, Sheffield, ...errrr, Halifax??? Well, we probably play rugby better- Keightly, Bradford, Leeds and Huddersfield are not bad! And a great Cricket team Yorkshire..
Shopping..
Designer outlets at York, Castleton and Hornsea..and probably others that I don't know about. leeds is a superb shopping centre, too.
Culture
Theatres in Leeds, Huddersfield...

Loving Leeds Life
Review of Leeds in general by
VerySpecialOne
Advantages: Great shops, restaurants, bars, friendly people
Disadvantages: None
...As a students of the University of Leeds for the last three years, I feel I am more than qualified to give you a good insight into the Leeds experience.
Leeds is a great city with many exciting things to do. Situated in the county of Yorkshire, Leeds is regarded as one of the major and most glamourous cities in the UK.
Firstly, the people in Leeds are so friendly. There is a really nice atmosphere when you walk round Leeds city centre and this is a definite plus. Also with the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University - the city is very student friendly. Most students I know have had a fantastic university experience in Leeds.
SHOPPING.
Leeds has great shopping, situated in a fairly compact shopping centre.
*Harvey Nichols
With doormen in hats to open the door for you and with a great range of designer goodies...

Leeds- What an experience!
Review of Leeds (England) by
ukusa
Advantages: Shopping, Drinking and Shopping
Disadvantages: Same problems any city has!
...During a conversation with a London couple recently, they had said they like to spend odd weekends in different parts of England between their main holidays. We started to discuss the various places around England like York and Harrogate among other places. When I mentioned Leeds, they were a bit surprised. Then my husband and I decided to "educate" these Londoners. After that I thought, "Hmmmm..... I wonder who else would like to know about Leeds?"
According to the Conde Nast Traveller- the City of Leeds has been voted the UK's favourite city. The Yorkshire city left London trailing. The Lonely Planet guide recently dubbed Leeds the "Knightsbridge of the North".
~History~
Leeds began as a Saxon village. The little town probably had a population of around 1,000 people. In the 16th century things began to change...

TO LEEDS OR NOT TO LEEDS
Review of Leeds United by
alistair22
Advantages: In each game that they play in the Champions League they are classed as the underdogs,i believe that gives them the mental edge
Disadvantages: Young and naive, and thats about it
...How much longer can these lucky, lucky Leeds lads hold on in the champions league,i mean come on,were talking about the cream of the crop in european football, the top earners in the world....and then Leeds. No offence Yorkshire folk but i am so sure that in there next game or in the final(well there in the semis so i suppose anything is possible)Leeds United are going to get stuffed.
Ok,yes,im a bitter man,yes i know that,i mean come on im a Spurs fan,so im aloud to be synical, thats all thats gone on down at The Lane in recent years.
But no way can Leeds United be in the semi final of the Champions League, thats just amazing, they(Leeds)have already beaten the top teams(ie Lazio,Deportivo La Curuna,PSV)and they do seem to be on fire......but surly there luck is to run out sooner or later.Mind you im a true English man and i am proud...

A taste of Leeds
Review of Yorkshire Tea by
sue26
Advantages: A proper cup of tea
Disadvantages: none
...Now I`m not a huge tea drinker, I`m more of a coffee person, but sometimes I need a drink that`s not so harsh on the palate. Seeing as I`m a Yorkie lass born and bred, then there can really only be one brand of tea for me. Being brought up, or should I say dragged up in the heart of Leeds, as far I know the rumours about us Yorkies liking a piece of cole to dip in our tea is just not true.
Most Yorkies do prefer a deeply stewed cup of tea though, but I`m not your typical yorkshire lass. I prefer my tea very weak, that`s why I choose to drink Yorkshire tea. Some teabags can give you quite a strong taste even when only dunked for a minute or two, that`s where Yorkshire tea differs. Depending on the dunking time, you will get varying strengths and tastes.
I prefer to dunk mine with a spoon for a maximum of about ten seconds, that way...

Why Yorkshire?
Review of Yorkshire (England) by
cornishcoast
Advantages: Culture, coast, friendly people, good food,
Disadvantages: Rain and cyclists
...Why Yorkshire? Even the most discerning person would find it hard not to find something they would feel positive about in this county of plenty. From the stunning coastal scenery, to the history of York and all its secrets - the ghost walks are a must, to the Leeds experience of shops and nightlife, to the peace and tranquility of the Dales - in Yorkshire there is no time to be bored.
Perhaps I am biased as I am a tyke but in all my travels I find coming home to Yorkshire just that. Home is where the heart is and you'll find a fine welcome wherever you visit.
Forget the diets when you experience Yorkshire fare at one of the many tearooms on offer. Fish and chips on a blustery day at one of the many resorts along the east coast can leave you feeling either exhilarated or soaked - both an experience. If mobility is an issue the resorts...

Leeds is one of my favourite cities in England
Review of Leeds in general by
judithritchie
Advantages: It is the best place in the world, easy to access, FULL of culture and class
Disadvantages: um, nope cant think of any
...of chance to sit down, relax and refresh with something nice. Lots and lots of the nicest pubs I have ever visited, which have a very nice atmosphere and, during the day, very nice menus. There is lots of culture to be ofund in Leeds, within the town centre. The West Yorkshire Playhouse is next to the bus and coach station, and puts on very high quality plays and shows. The town hall looks majestical and holds a lot of events, and right next door lies the art museum and library. The universitieslie just behind these wonderful buildings. Leeds is very very easy to reach, a centre to everything, with an airport 20 miles or so out (Leeds-Bradford), a coach and bus station, and a huge modern train station I had to commute through to get to school to finish my Alevels at 17.
The moment I first ever went to Leeds I fell in love with the place...
