Giving blood-the simple way to be a hero.
Review of Member Advice on Blood Donation by
jlkovacs1
Advantages: Helping to save people's lives
Disadvantages: Outweighed by the advantages!
...of their blood type. This means they are particularly handy in an emergency when someone's blood type isn't known. This, of course, is not to say that rarer blood types aren't as important-everyone should give!
4. "A pint's a lot to give!"
I'm going to be pedantic here, and say that you actually give just under a pint! The amount you give is easily regenerated by the body, and most people don't suffer any ill effects after. I doubt the NHS would encourage people to do something that would make people ill;hospitals are crowded enough as it is!
5. "I'm too young/too old!"
Young people seem to think that the time for everything is later rather than now-I know, I am one! But the longer you give blood for, the more people you are helping. You can start donating at 17, not 18, as many people seem to believe, so get out there and do it! You can...

His greatest desire is to see everyone else fail. Blood Diamonds a girls best friend?
Review of Blood Diamond DVD by
guydavies123
Advantages: Special Effects, Script and Cinamatography
Disadvantages: Some dodgey accents.
...◊^^^Synopsis^^^◊
An ex-mercenary turned smuggler (Leonardo DiCaprio) and a Mende fisherman (Djimon Hounsou) join forces, with the help of a journalist (Jenifer Connelly), amid the dangerous, unstable, bloody and volatile civil war engulfing Sierra Leone, Africa, in 1999. They join for two desperate quests: recovering an extremely rare; large pink diamond with inestimable value, a “Blood Diamond”, and rescuing the fisherman’s son who has been captured and conscripted by brutal rebel forces, who are engaged in a vicious and bloody war where no rules apply against the army and government as they fight across the beautiful landscape.
This urgent, deeply moving picture combines riveting human stories and exhilarating action into harrowing and equally thrilling realistic depiction of the bloody and brutal civil war in Sierra...

MY SMALL MEAN BLOOD SUGAR MACHINE!!!!!
Review of Accu-Check Active Blood Glucose Monitor by
paulwaz
Advantages: quick small
Disadvantages: i have not found any
...Diabetes
I’m diabetic and have been for the past five years, I Have type one diabetes which occurs in the young, due to the fact that the beta cells in the pancreas attack the insulin producing cells. The main thing with diabetes is to keep your blood sugar at an acceptable level. The normal range is between 4-7 mmols. Type two diabetes is diagnosed later in life when the pancreas becomes less able to cope and produces less insulin.
No matter what type of diabetes you have it must be taken seriously, there seems to be a myth that type 2 is less serious this is not true. Abnormal blood sugars can cause a whole raft of serious side effects including blindness, kidney damage, loss of limbs and heart disease. Bad control also can delay wound healing and there is a higher risk of infection.
SO HOW DO WE MEASURE SUGAR LEVELS...

Half-blooded?
Review of Harry Potter and the Half - Blood Prince - J.K. Rowling by
hiker
Advantages: Magic, mystery...and an evil that isn't powerless
Disadvantages: None whatsoever
....
The sentence is the opening line of Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince. This is the sixth in what was always intended to be a seven-book series.
For those Muggles who have lived, unlike the aforementioned Prime Minister, blissfully unaware of the young Potter and his kind: a brief recap.
Harry Potter was orphaned as a baby. His parents lost the ultimate life and death struggle against 'him who shall not be named'. The name, whisper it quietly, is Voldemort. The most evil wizard ever to have lived - and possibly died - or maybe not. Harry should have died too. In fact, it has been revealed that maybe it was only Harry's death that was necessary. However, he escaped. Scarred for life with a lightning blaze upon his forehead that marked him as the boy that lived.
He has been brought up, or at least allowed to bring himself up...

There will be blood - oh yes there will!!
Review of There Will Be Blood DVD by
Spottydog11
Advantages: Spooky, mad movie
Disadvantages: A bit long
...There Will be Blood - I think this title is very fitting for this movie. It's like a warning, there will be blood and oh my gosh, how definitely true this statement was.
There Will be Blood is a 2007 film staring Daniel Day Lewis in the lead role. He actually went on to win the 2007 Academy Award for best Actor for his portrayal of Daniel Plainview. Overall the film was nominated for eight Academy Awards.
The film is set in California at the turn of the 20th century and follows the fortunes of oil prospectors. Daniel and his son begin a ruthless quest for wealth and oil field domination and are determined that nothing will get in their way.
The film starts out quite eerily in setting the scene. In fact for the first 15 minutes or so there is no talking and the only sounds we hear is from the spooky cello and piano music...

Blood and action not my type of game really
Review of Blood2: The Chosen (PC) by
WAD1-2-3
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...I had a few friends around and since we were on the computer they wanted to play some PC games. My brother has a really good collection of PC games. I saw Blood 2 I didn’t think much of the title and just put it into the D drive.
It is fair to say that those of you who do not like Blood and guts then I would say then this game isn’t for you. It is a very violent action game, to tell you the truth not really my cup of tea.
The graphics are quite good, they have paid a lot of attention to detail and the sound with the graphics are the best features of this game. I could understand why my brother would like it.
The game starts with you having to shoot your way out of a train. No doubt there’s a lot of blood and guts. What I did like about the game is how the character would shout out ‘Come on…...

Half Blood Prince... I WANT MORE!
Review of Harry Potter and the Half - Blood Prince - J.K. Rowling by
nim3
Advantages: Gripping, amusing, entertaining. All in all magical.
Disadvantages: The thirst for information is not fulfilled but further increased.
...throughout the book.
Namely IS SNAPE EVIL?
Well this question is not actually answered in the book, although some might disagree. Yes snape does kill a certain someone in the book, but there remain doubts about this loyalty and intentions which undoubtebly will be answered in the next installment The Deathly Hallows. Snape also VERY surprisingly turns out to be the Half blood prince! Now who saw that coming! Yes the half blood prince who Harry was very fond of, this obviously before he knew it was snape. This was due to harry now having snapes old potions book, using which he was able to claim undeserved recognition as a geat potion maker.
Malfoy is more prominent and has a much bigger role to play than in the other books. Halfway through the book when harry finally finds out where Malfoy is going and begins to pace around the room...

Blood Eagle
Review of Blood Eagle - Craig Russell by
annaroos1
Advantages: A good idea
Disadvantages: Overly descriptive and complicated in places
...After having read Russel's second book about Jan Fabel, Brother Grimm, I wasn't overly keen on reading anything else by this author. I had enjoyed Brother Grimm in places but found it to be disappointing over all. However, somehow I still ended up with Blood Eagle in my hands. This is the first book in the series of Jan Fabel, Erster Kriminalhauptkommissar (Principal Chief Commissar) with the Hamburg Police murder squad.
The book starts with an email from "Son of Sven" to Fabel which makes it clear that this Son of Sven character is a murderer and who is taunting Fabel personally with the notion that this is only the beginning and that he will not stop until he is made to do so. So far so run of the mill crime book. However, the plot quickly thickens as Fabel starts to investigate the brutal and apparently ritualistic murders...

There Will Be Blood
Review of There Will Be Blood DVD by
DavidJay
Advantages: Astounding cinematography, grpping plot, mesmerising lead performance.
Disadvantages: That ending might throw some viewers a touch.
...bristling with moral ambiguity and pitch-black humour.
Deserving of every superlative thrown his direction, Daniel Day Lewis' plays Daniel Plainview, a relentless, black-hearted, whiskey-slugging oil prospector who arrives in the town of Little Boston, California with his young son H.W with the intention of exploiting both the townspeople's ignorance and untapped oil fields.
Matters are complicated when the ambitions of the town's minister, Eli Sunday (Paul Dano) come into conflict with Plainview's, the resulting web of antagonism, back-stabbing and revenge serving to buckle both men irrevocably.
Though two and a half hours long, There Will Be Blood leaves one pleading for more. From its opening, dialogue-free twenty minutes of pit-delving and leg-breaking to its devastating, ambiguous conclusion, it is an absolute joy. A heavy, oft...
