Rolleston House Youth Hostel

...Rolleston House youth hostel is a HI hostel (YHA affiliated, i.e. you get a discount) on Worcester St in the centre of Christchurch, New Zealand. It is situated close to several bus stops, including the bus to the airport (which starts running early in the morning). I came as a lone traveller here two years ago and found it an excellent base to stay. It was cheap (less than £15 per night), clean, in a nice area, and was a good place to meet like-minded travellers of all ages. The dorms were fairly small (4 bunk beds of two beds) and were mixed. The showers were very basic but clean and there were too few of them (only two in the women's bathroom). Lime House Hostel, reasonable but unspectacular

Advantages: Cheap, friendly and huge roof area
Disadvantages: noisy and a little run down

...Lime House is a popular hostel on Calle Lima near the intersection of 9 de Julio and 25 de Mayo in the centre of Buenos Aires. I recently stayed here for around a month-although i don't mean to imply that the relatively long stay in one hostel means it was fantastic, i was just too lazy to move! The hostel is in a great location for sightseeing as Plaza de Mayo is a 10 minute walk away and there is access to the other main tourist areas via the metro (subway) which stops just outisde. There are also bus routes across the city from the street the hostel lies on. Around the hostel itself there are plenty of restuarants and a couple of supermarkets. The one downside is that the main pubbing and clubbing area is in Palermo, quite far from the Lime house, and as the subway stops at around midnight the taxis to get to and from going out can...

The best Hostel we've found

Advantages: freindly staff, wonderful food, lovely local beer, cheap, family friendly, excellent building
Disadvantages: a bit far from anywhere (but could be an advantage)

Ottawa HI Jail Hostel - Staying in a haunted youth hostel

Advantages: Unique place to stay, OK price, in centre of Ottawa easy walk to attractions, good fun
Disadvantages: Light being left on in corridor all night, no good if you want 'quiet' place to sleep

...Having not stayed in a youth hostel before we decided on our visit to Ottawa to try out the Jail Hostel for 2 nights. The cost was £31.05 per night have not sure if this was more expensive than normal for hostels and you would get it cheaper if you had Hi Hostel membership. However for the experience of staying in a haunted jail we thought it was worth it and would be fun! On arrival we checked in and were given our bed sheets and towels by a very friendly receptionist and off we went to our 'cell' yes we stayed in a room that was a prison cell. Bunk Beds in one corner, wardrobe and a sink then we had a shared shower room and toilets. Not much room in there so you better get on with who you are staying with but all a bit different and good fun. The floor we were on had cells down both sides of the floor and was mixed with men...

Advantages: Excellent value. Sociable and friendly. Locations.
Disadvantages: Having to share a dorm. Isolated.

If Hostels Were Flowers, I?d Pick This One

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful, clean and welcoming
Disadvantages: No super-hostel facilities, slightly out of the main centre

...experienced in is the world of youth hostels, so it took one of the other team members to show us before we figured out that pillow cased pillows then went inside the bottom sheet you took from reception, which in turn went on top of the real bottom sheet. If you wanted a top sheet, this was the same style, like a fake sleeping bag, with sewn up sides that make you feel all tangled when you wake up. <> COMMUNAL AREAS <> Towels could be hired from reception, and on each floor were washing facilities, some separated by gender, and some not. So we had mixed loos and sinks in one room, individual showers a bit further down and, for some reason, a room of gent?s showers right next door to us. Wake up to a decent hostel

Advantages: Clean, modern, welcoming, good security and facilities, central location
Disadvantages: Doesn't have freephone number, electronic card access for everything, checking in takes ages, no free breakfast

...As I found after a previous bad experience, and talking to several other travellers while in Australia, good hostels are hard to come by in Sydney. The first hostel I stayed in I found to be cold, inhospitable and overpriced for what they (didn't) provide. On talking to other people, I found that though there were cheaper hostels available, they may be bed bug ridden, decrepit, uncomfortable, overcrowded, unfriendly, or too inconveniently located. So I was pleased to discover Wake up! Sydney on my next return to the city... it's a bright, buzzy and ultra modern hostel, which only opened in April 2002 so you can be assured none of the mattresses are sagging yet! And is located just opposite the main train station in Sydney, meaning it's convenient for all the sights in the city centre, as well as for getting out to the suburbs...

Advantages: Thrilling, Chilling

...Well this is one freaky and scary movie. Its rather you have to fight to survive through the movie than to watch it. This movie is completely about brutality. God knows what was goin through that directors mind while creating. The movie is packed with complete thrills, scenes which give you chills, goosebumps and some, which make you wanna puke. Horror at the Hostel

Advantages: Gore fans will love this, there are disgusting displays of death galore.
Disadvantages: The film lacks substance, relies heavily on shock value and little else is offered.

Having heard good things and previously loved 'Cabin Fever' which Roth also directed I had been really looking forward to seeing this film, when I saw it however I felt nothing but disappointment. Many had praised the film for its gory and grotesque nature, and yes Eli Roth does indeed forefront blood and guts quite freely here but really there is very little substance to this film whatsoever. ...like watching, to see whether anything still surprises me. Generally I am disappointed, sometimes I even feel guilty for watching films about extreme cruelty to people. But that is not really why I watch them, and I don't think most people who watched this film did so because they enjoy seeing people being tortured, but rather because they were curious.
