Ypres
Advantages: beautiful, insightful
Disadvantages: can be depressing
...In October of 07 I went on a day trip to Ypres, Belgium. I was with my schools GCSE History class, as we had been studying The Home Front. So we had the option of taking a trip to Belgium.
I have to say going to Ypres was one of the best experience of my life. It is absolutely beautiful their, it is vintage and very town-like. Going in October meant it was absolutely freezing but that did not effect my feelings on the day.
We got to Ypres by coach from taking the euro tunnel and driving through France. I have to say being an experienced coach traveller (having been on 12 hour coach journeys) that was the shortest coach ride i have ever taken. It felt like 2 hours.
So our first stop in Ypres was to go to The Menin Gate. This gate is absolutely amazing, with names upon names of deceased soldiers in the war of any nationality...

Great Experience
Advantages: you learn a lot about the world war, doesn't cost a lot if you visiting from U.K
Disadvantages: The weather could be really cold and muddy in some areas
...i have updated this review..hope it's very useful now.
Ypres is the place to be if you are a sort of person who is interested in History of the World war mainly concentrating on German and Belgium. I been there three times mainly because of my history studies and the experience was extraordinary.
However, Because i've mainly visited there for History studies it's hard for me to tell you about the city life style, entertainment etc.
A return ticket to ypres only cost me £45 via Euro tunnel which is rather cheap. Maybe it was cheap because we was a group of students, therefore could cost more if you are an individual adult.
When we went to the flanders fields were there is lots of graves we were just wondering around and ma mate noticed a grave of her great grand dad and she was shocked i actually took the picture for her as she did...

My day in the past.
Advantages: Good atmosphere, amazing buildings, good shopping
Disadvantages: Very sad, extremly cold in winter!
...I have recently been on a day-long trip with my school to see Ypres as we are studying the 1st World War. I found it fascinating.
Ypres is a small medieval town in Belgium. It used to be a small and sleepy town with only 20,000 inhabitants. It was taken by the German army in 1914 and after four years of war it was left in ruins. It was so flat and empty that you could see around you for miles. It was one of the best cloth towns in Belgium so the money from that paid for the town to be completely rebuilt.
We excitedly boarded our coaches at five o'clock in the morning on 11 March. We crossed the channel in the Euro tunnel and drove through France and into Belgium. We arrived in a very cold Belgium at 11am, unprepared for the day that lay ahead.
We stopped off at a few Commonwealth War Grave Cemeteries, including the one...

The Belgium of theme parks
Advantages: Good range of rides, decent range of food and drink, no pressure selling
Disadvantages: Queues on certain rides
...Twenty-five minutes drive south-east of Brussels, and just south of the French-Brussels language border is the town of Wavre, on the outskirts of which is a theme park, Walibi Belgium. Originally opened in 1975 by Eric Meeus (there is a plaque in his honour just inside the gates), the park has changed names a number of times in the few years we have lived here ? Walibi, Six Flags and back to Walibi again. On part of the complex, there is Aqualibi, which is a water theme park, but since I have never been inside, this review will only deal with the park. Aqualibi is subject to a separate charge from the main park.
WHAT RIDES ARE THERE?
Walibi is a serious theme park, with lots of rides that you would expect at places like Alton Towers or Chessington World of Adventures. The park has classified the rides under four headings...

Taste of Sprouts: The proxamity of Belgium
Advantages: It's close, it's charms are well known
Disadvantages: It's confusing
...Taking advantage of some exceptionally good travel offers from an on-line travel agent we recently spent a five-day ?City break? exploring Belgium. We had been to Brussels before (a short pre-Christmas trip about five years ago) so heeding the advice of that CIAO sage Proxam we decided to see some more of the country than just the capital. We were also quite curious to experience for ourselves the suggested ?Unity of Europe? there at the heart of the Community. Maybe we would be able to divine something of the truth behind all the current political and economical manoeuvrings. After all I have been more than happy to use the Euro because it has the attraction of being foreign ? just as long as it remains so! I have also enjoyed other trips to foreign lands ? it is the foreignness that makes them so appealing.

Beer, Breweries, Bars and Belgium!
Advantages: A good guide with useful info and humour.
Disadvantages: Is only his opinions.
...There are a few things that I just HAVE to pack when we go to Belgium. These are passport (can't get out of the country without it), money (beer tokens are needed for the trip!), clean underwear (well we ARE in company) and Tim Webb's Good Beer Guide Belgium. We do go to Belgium quite often and like to head off on the train to cities, towns and villages near where we are staying. Usually this is to check out the bars and to sample new and interesting beers. This is why the Good Beer Guide Belgium has become an essential tool for the Belgian Beer drinker.
~~~THE LAYOUT.
The book is divided into sections making it very easy to find what you want. The index is also split into an alphabetical list of places and then beers, so you can cross reference the two if you need. The sections of the book are detailed on the contents page...
Belgium,Belgium,Beautiful Belgium!
Advantages: English speaking,friendly people,beautiful!
Disadvantages: Pickpockets
...over the World.
All kinds of people from businessmen, musicians, childcarers, just like me, you find them all, It is also a popular place for stag nights, apparently, so I'm told!
There are many places you can visit whilst in Belgium:-Antwerp, Liege, Ghent, Bruges, Ypres, Ooestende, and even the Belgian seaside of Knokke.
Although I lived near to Brussels, and obviously know Brussels extremely well, I also had the opportunity to see many places in Belgium, and I was impressed by every place I went to.
In my opinion Antwerp has a similar vibe to Brussels with many tourist places to visit and see, whereas Knokke although a seaside town has more of a local people environment, and not so touristic.
Bruges on the other hand has a bit of both, an absolutely beautiful town, cobbled streets, serenity, horse and carriages, slightly Olde...
Belgium IS cool and froody
Advantages: A real Goscinny book...
Disadvantages: ...but the last one.
...Asterix in Belgium marks the end of an era, as it was the last Asterix adventure to be written by Rene Goscinny before his death. As an epitaph it's not at all bad - I wouldn't class it as one of the great Asterix books, but it's by no means poor, and is well up to previous standards.
The premise of the story is, like most of the series, a simple one. Julius Caesar has said that the Belgians are the bravest of all the Gaulish people. This does not go down at all well with Chief Vitalstatistix, and so he decides to visit the Belgians himself, and prove just who is the bravest. Asterix and Obelix, of course, are deputed by Getafix to accompany the chief (in spite of his initial objections), and, once arrived, the trio divide their time between eating and fighting (Obelix is in his element here!), the latter according to carefully drawn...
I would say the nicest town in Belgium
Advantages: A reallynice town for a trip, you can reach it quickly by train or car.
Disadvantages: Few of the people is speaking english.
...For my first opinion on Ciao UK i choosed something I know perfectly, Namur.
First I would like to mention that english is far to be mymother tongue and that I'm writing here to improve my english. So don't judge me too hard, but don't hesitate to post any comment on BIG errors.
Okay just go on with the real subject now.
Namur is in Belgium, I bet you all know where Belgium is. So I won't explain you how to get in Belgium.
Namur is the headcity of Wallonia ( Belgium is dived in two main areas, Flandria and Wallonia, In Wallonia we speak french and in Flandria, they speak Dutch ).
The first thing you notice when ariving in Namur, is its castle, on top of the city, dominating it. That's really a good place to visit, cause thats full of nice history facts. More there is a little perfume enterprise quite famous, its name is...
Brussels on a budget
Advantages: easy to get to, the Grand Place
Disadvantages: Mannakin Pis is dissapointing, takcy tourist shops
...Question
What does one do when you want to celebrate finishing the taught part of a Masters degree and want to go away but are so broke even the cheapest trip to Spain is not an option?
Answer.
Book a very cheap flight for a mini break to Brussels the capital of Belgium. I did this in June 2003 and I had a great time.
I flew with Ryanair from John Lennon airport in Liverpool to Charleroi airport in Brussels. Or so I thought it was in Brussels. It was near enough an hour from the airport to Midi railway station. The connecting bus is a rip off at 10 euros. Since there were four of us on the way there we took a taxi that cost us 35 euros. The airfare was really cheap. It only cost £20 for a return fare including all taxes.
Due to the European Parliament Brussels has cheap hotels at the weekend instead of during mid week. We were...
