HP ProLiant DL380G3
Review of HP ProLiant DL380 G3 - Xeon 3.2 GHz by
mdallen
Advantages: High Density, excellent availabilty
Disadvantages: Default SmartArray5i does not have option to add battery cache
...We have 12 of these machines, all with dual 2.8Ghz Xeons. The thing I like most about them is that almost everything is hot-plug. From the drives, to the fans, power supplies to the pci cards. Opening the top cover leads to an incredibly well laid out system. PCI cards can be installed and de-installed (assuming the OS supports it) while the system is up and running. I'd highly recommend you invest in the redundant fan option kit. If you're installing another processor then you really need to have this.
On a downside, the only thing that springs to mind is there is no front USB port available. With floppy discs disapppearing these days, it would have been nice. HP seem to have realised this and on the G4 servers there is now a front USB, and no floppy drive.
Managability wise these servers are fantastic. We went from using...

My Dream Machine CPU - P4 Prescott 2.8GHz
Review of Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor by
C_W_Monkey
Advantages: Very Fast, Latest technology
Disadvantages: Not 64 bit like AMD, heat problems
...the Northwood chips and is all set for a fantastic future.
The heating problems are minute compared to the advantages and are easily fixable. Plus, AMD chips are also very prone to heat problems. So I would suggest this chip to anyone.
It'll cost you around £120 for the 2.8GHz flavour, which is minutely more expensive than the Northwood version.
There was no instruction manual, but you don't really need one. I'm guessing in the full retail box there is, I don't know.
Look out for my next review on the Creative Labs ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB graphics card, coming tomorrow :-)...

2.8ghz Pentium 4 - Oldie but Goodie
Review of Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor by
hes_quadraphonic
Advantages: Cheap, Good Performace
Disadvantages: Not HT, L2 Cache could be bigger, Easy to install if you know how.
...of 5ghz supposedly, but they do run hotter in the first place, and overclocking generally means more heat. This 2.8ghz processor, is more than capable of running stably at 3.0ghz but be sure to have sufficent cooling and know what you're doing before you decide to overclock. REMEBER: It also voids your warrantee if anything should go wrong.
----------Stability----------
This is a very stable processor, I've had no faults with it in all the time i've used it. Naturally, stability may be compromised if there isnt adequet cooling the case, or if you've overclocked it. Being a 2.8ghz, you won't need anything fancy to cool it, just make sure theres enough room in the case for it to breath, and air flow is good. Make sure you've got a P4 high rated CPU fan, and the procesor should run perfectly happily.

Samsung V25 P4 2.8 GHz Notebook
Review of Samsung V25 XVC 2800 - P4 2.8 GHz - 15.1" TFT by
HamRam
Advantages: Quality, design, performance
Disadvantages: No printed User Manual!
...I lucked-into this purchase, having initially bought a Dixons “generic” laptop with similar specifications, which ceased to function within four hours of getting it home. I replaced it at Comet with the V25 P4 2.8, for an additional £100. Thankfully, over the past four weeks the Samsung product has restored my feelings of pride in new ownership.
The first thing to notice about this machine is its slick design and excellent build-quality. Its casing is nicely put together, and doesn’t flex or warp. The keyboard has a nice positive feel to it, doesn’t bounce about like those on “cheapo” laptops – and doesn’t leave you feeling crippled after several hours typing. The touch-pad is easy to use and enables precise cursor positioning (though I use a PS/2 mouse for preference). The TEAC combo CD/DVD-RW is reassuringly robust. Samsung...

Fancy a Pizza Anyone
Review of HP ProLiant DL360 G3 - Xeon 2.8 GHz by
grovej
Advantages: Small and Cheap
Disadvantages: Cabling can be a bit of a nightmare
...*************
The DL360 is at the low end of the DL range and will accept either 1 or 2 Intel Zeon processors ranging up to 2.4GHz, the server can be ordered with either one or two proc’s if you order the single proc version an additional can be purchased when you require more capacity. The server will take up to 8GB of PC2100 memory arranged in 4 slots. The server also has 2 PCI-X expansion slots if you don’t have the redundant power option, if you add the redundant power then you sacrifice a slot, to attach to a SAN a dual port PCI card will need to be purchased. The server comes with 2 copper Gigabit NIC's on board, additional NIC's can be added using the PCI expansion slots. For the internal disks the server has a built in smartarray 5i+ controller which allows you to have Raid1 using the 2 internal hot plug disk slots. This low end server has can have...

Toshiba Satellite Pro A60
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 - Celeron D 335 2.8 GHz - 15" TFT by
scottergirdham
Advantages: Sturdy design Nice Blue colour Get a lot for your money
Disadvantages: Overheating/crashing problems experienced Memory upgrade was necessary Required a lot of tweaking to get 'right'
...The Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 laptop is ideal for entry level home users, and possibly students who have some time on their hands to sort stuff out. I wouldn't say it was suitable for the lower end of the business market, as Toshiba seem to be targeting with this product. I could be wrong however, maybe I was just unlucky!
I have had mine for 8 months now, after previous satellite old faithful, which I had owned for about 7 years, gave up the ghost in the middle of a project, and I needed a cheap laptop quickly. I was impressed by the blue design which veers away from the boring black/grey you're used to seeing on the budget end notebooks.
For the budget it was a toss up between this or a Dell, and in the end I decided to go for the Tosh which wasn't the bottom end of the scale like the Dell was for the same money.

BMW Z3 2.8
Review of BMW Z3 Roadster by
sparkz45
Advantages: makes people jealous
Disadvantages: hasnt got any
...I first bought the BMW Z3 2.8 car beacause I was seduced by the sexy and aggressive looks and the sheer grunt and performance of the engine.
It has taken me a while to get used to it and through that time I have gone through the emotions of being dissapointed and back to being delighted. If you approach the car understanding that this is a drivers car, in the mould od perhaps a '70's sports car then from day 0ne you will understand what its about. Perhaps that a cop out from BMW.
After all, we are in the 21st century and my 4 years old 406 shows a much better level of sophistication than a supposedly upmarket make like BMW. Im 6ft and fit in quite well with the hardtop fitted. When ever the headroom with the soft top up is any worse I shall find out in the summer. As for internal space; I'm a big chap and it took me a while...

Affordable laptop for home/student/work use
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 - Celeron D 335 2.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
sheffield_fox
Advantages: Excellent performance at an affordable price
Disadvantages: Extra memory required, poor battery life, overheats easily
...I bought the Toshiba Satellite A60 Pro through Misco around eighteen months ago and have found it to be a sturdy, good performing all round laptop. While it is by no means spectacular, for the price at the time of buying it would be hard to find anything better.
It is available in 14.1 or 15 inch screens (I went for the 14.1in to aid with portability). It isn't the lightest laptop in the world but it is sturdy and after many days of carrying it to and from university, it has still lasted with out any breakdowns.
It comes with a whopping 2.8Ghz processor but the downside to this is that it overheats incredibly quickly. I found that if the fan on the underside was resting on my leg with no escape route for the air, then within about 10-15 minutes, the computer would switch itself off without warning and couldn't be switched...
