...being a gamer and a pc mod enthusiast i had to get 1 of these i have owned this fan now for 6 months and i would highly reccomend at the moment i am running it on a 3.4 ghz pentium d dual core cpu which out of all the intel cpus run at high temperature temperatures on the origonal fan supplied by intel my temperatures were @ 3.4 ghz not under load 48 degrees under full load 52 degrees @4.2 ghz not under load 57 degrees under full load 68 degrees on the zalman fan @ 3.4 ghz not under load 36 degrees 41 degrees under full load @ 4.2 ghz not under load 40 degrees 49 degrees under full load that impressed me alot the first time i used it and i will be looking forward to sticking it on a quad core cpu which you will then see its true performance noise to say that it is a 120mm cooler which is noticeably 3 times... Advantages: Great Performance, Totally Silent
Disadvantages: Installation Trickier than Most

...You know you've done well when others try to imitate you. Zalman's silent heatpipe VGA coolers have been copied by many companies now. And this is one of the originals. The packaging of this product is very professional. A detailed instuction booklet complete with diagrams will take you through the installation. You even get a bag of spare parts and a screwdriver, in case you don't have one small enough for the small screws needed. Zalman have thought of everything. Installation is trickier than most VGA coolers, but most VGA coolers don't have a heatpipe on. It'll require quite a lot of thermal paste, but you get 2 tubes supplied by Zalman. ...I recently upgraded to an Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard, Intel Q6600 and picked this cooler due to my supplier being out of stock of another Zalman cooler. It is a copper based heatsink with copper heat pipes which connect to a steel fan assembly with the fan on top (as pictured). It is supplied with supporting clips for both 754/775 and socket 939/940 and you have to fix the right one according to your set-up. The Intel clip felt as though I was going to break it before I would get the two sides of the clip to seperate and I eventually prised it open with a screwdriver risking it not going back together again. Once the back plate was stuck to my motherboard I then had to re-assemble the clip around the cooling block and then screw the whole thing onto the base. ...The Zalman ZM NB32J is a gold coloured, passive (i.e. it is not cooled by a fan) heatsink for your computer’s motherboard’s northbridge chip. As PC’s have got faster, northbridge chips, just like processors, have started to run hotter and hotter and it is now common to find small heatsink-fan (HSF) assemblies fitted by the motherboard manufacturer to dissipate this heat. The trouble with this solution is two-fold. - The HSF is often badly attached, using only a small amount of thermal grease* to provide the interface between northbridge chip and HSF. - The fan in such units must spin extremely fast to move any significant amount of air due to their small size – this creates a comparatively high level of noise and vibration for the result achieved. The ZALMAN 9700 LED is a cooler for the CPU and it is compatible with the following chipsets: Socket 754, Socket 940, Socket 775, Socket 939, Socket AM2 Performance I don't have any temperature comparisons with other coolers but it's sat on top of my Core 2 Duo 6600 and is very quiet indeed, plus I can barely get the CPU temp over 35 degrees even on a hot day playing a 3d game. I should point out that this will in part be to my large Gigabyte Aurora 3D case that has three 120mm fans in it. Not only is it very quiet, another thing I like about it is that because the fan is perpendicular to the motherboard, it is already in a position to move air out of the case. ...Well, not silence perhaps - but quiet-ness maybe! The Zalman Fanmate is a small and inexpensive (around £5 to buy) gizmo that is used to control the rotational speed (and hence airflow and noise) of an internal 3-pin speed sensing computer fan (such as may be found mounted in a PC case bringing in fresh air or exhausting hot air, or on top of a CPU heatsink keeping things cool). It's primary purpose is to provide control over the airflow/noise balance of a particular fan. Fan speed is controlled by a small rotational knob on the body of the unit, which is approximately 200(L) x 21(H) x 23(W) mm in size and weighs around 20g. .... Four days later, and things are still good, in fact i 'feel' my PC runs smoother. The heatsink is warm to the touch, when pc is idle, and gets warmer when running intensive applications, like 3d games. This is probably due to it being aluminium, and this is a better material for conducting heat, than the rubbish lump of metal, that the manufacturer will use. I would recommend this cooler, to anyone looking to make their pc quieter, especially, if you have a northbridge with a active heatsink (one with a fan).
