Save The 4x4 - It's As Important As A Whale!
Review of Should 4x4 Cars Be Banned? by
markd_uk
Advantages: 4x4 Vehicles Are As Needed By Some As Smart Cars Are By Others
Disadvantages: Needless Government Taxation
...Hi, my name's Mark and I'm a four-by-four driver. [Cue: round of applause]
Phew, I'm glad I've got that off my chest. I mean, it's difficult these days driving around in a car that causes everybody to hate you. It makes you feel like a pariah. Thanks to the government, mentioning that they were going to tax so-called Chelsea Tractors off the road, the media have gone into an anti-4x4 frenzy and now it seems that owning such a vehicle is as socially unacceptable as running naked down the middle of the high street.
Let's examine this for a moment. What is it that Range Rovers, Jeeps, Toyota Land Cruisers - and the plethora of other off-road vehicles that make up this category - are doing that makes them so despised? After all, they take up less space on the road than your everyday Rolls Royce and the boss's BMW 7-series is quite...

4X4 Evolution is great
Review of 4 x 4 Evolution (PS2) by
dreadedfist
Advantages: Completely modifiable 4X4 vehicles that can be changed to fit your specific needs
Disadvantages: Not enough tracks to race on
...This game is absolutly amazing! After playing the game for almost a week, I've come to the following conclusions. The Graphics are completely astounding, and really help make you feel like you're truly behind the wheel of a souped up 4X4! The SFX are great. 4X4 EVO features every type of sound imaginable, including: enviornment, skidding, acceleration, car horns, and the "thump thump crash" of driving across a sand dune at 80 MPH towards a checkpoint!
One of the greatest aspects of 4X4 Evolution is the "go anywhere" style the developers approached the game with. Sure, you could follow the predesigned paths and roads, but why not experiment with all different types of routes that you can take to win the race? Driving over mountains, through forests, through streams and off bridges is a great deal of fun that really adds...

Review of JVC AV-28X4
Review of JVC AV28X4 by
adamisat
Advantages: Advantages - excellent picture quality for price range, solid build quality
Disadvantages: Disadvantages - not as many options and features as other widescreens on the market, the stand is not aesthetically great
...First off if you are looking for a 28 inch television under £450 then this JVC all rounder is definitely worth investigating. Its picture quality is very impressive and sharp for this price level, showing colours clearly and brightly. The 100hz picture scan (twice as much as the typical 50hz picture scan for this price range) ensures the picture is less blurry than many of this tv's competitors, and text can be clearly read on screen without straining your eyes, unlike on some cheaper televisions.
The AV-28X4's sound quality is decent enough, but you can get better for the money. Unusually the speakers are below the screen, rather than each side, meaning the stero sound effect is not as noticeable as on some televisions. The sound is by no means bad, but if you want a home move experience, then you will need to attach some external...

4x4 Evolution
Review of 4 x 4 Evolution (PS2) by
yago82
Advantages: many
Disadvantages: few
...4x4 Evolution, hasn't really evolved at all from the old style of 4x4 trucking games, although it has a superb start up, the game is just one long boring road, much like 4 Wheel Thunder. The developers Terminal Reality have obviously tried to add a spark of originality and innovation into the game, but unfortunately, as with many Dreamcast racing games, this one is a right bore.
Boring circuits - they couldn't even be bothered to design them with interesting layouts - some will put you to sleep! The 4x4 vehicles look ok, but most handle like hyper active elephants - very hard to control, awful turning and a disappointing sensation of realism and proportion.
Graphically it's ok, nothing more, nothing less - they're better than PlayStation graphics, obviously - the DC is a 128bit console, but the game just doesn't feel right - it...

Abit VT6X4 and its Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset
Review of Abit Pentium III VT6X4 by
AmK
Advantages: 133MHz FSB support, 1/2 AGP divider, stable, inexpensive
Disadvantages: Performance not up to overclocked BX solution
...I would like to share my experiences of the Abit VT6X4 slot 1 motherboard and its VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset.
In the past I have always used boards with an Intel chipset in my own machines. As my PC is important for work and study as well as for play, stability has always been an influencing factor. With the VT6X4, Abit have implemented stability in the VIA chipset.
The CPU I am using is a Slot 1 Intel Pentium 3 733MHz (133MHz FSB) chip, which I picked up second hand very inexpensively as an upgrade to my Celeron 366 (overclocked to 550). The P3 is a fast and stable chip - it runs pretty cool for a 733MHz CPU.
The VIA chipset is not the fastest solution available; those who lust for those extra frames per second in Quake 3 should consider an overclocked Intel BX chipset solution - the BX chipset doesn't support a 1/2 AGP...

Lennyman buys Another great 4x4
Review of Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4 Import by
LennyMan
Advantages: Great all-round performance, style and gadgets
Disadvantages: The SWB version is too small for shopping at Tesco's
...Avid reader....
You will of course know my style by now, and understand that I get a little overenthusiastic about the toys that I buy. However... This time I waited a while before writing my review, but can still say that this IS a FANTASTIC car!
Let's start with why you should buy the Imported Pajero rather than it's English cousin the Shogun...
First you have to understand *why* there are so many Pajero's in the UK. This started back in the early nineties when the only decent 4x4's you could get were imports (other than Land Rover/Range Rover's), and normally an imported car would need 'conversion' to the UK (e.g. Swapping over of the steering wheel to the correct side etc.) This is not the case with a Pajero, as the Japanese drive on the same side of the road as us! The only changes that need to be made are; Indicator lights...

Zoom around the internet in style!
Review of Zoom ADSL X3 5560 - router by
antsss
Advantages: Small, and makes internet sharing as easy as pie
Disadvantages: A bit expensive, no built-in hub, a bit ugly!
...'ve struggled with connection sharing on ANY operating system, a router will be heaven to you - and if you're not technically minded, you can buy the Zoom X3 without knowing any more than what the manual tells you.
--> MAINTAINANCE
Once the router is connected and working, you'll see the LAN and RXD lights flash when active, and the router will generally stay connected for days, even weeks, without any problems. If anything goes wrong, you can switch it off and on again to re-connect, without having to reboot your computers. And if you run into any serious problems, you can reset the unit to default factory settings, and there's an option to upgrade the Zoom software when updates are released.
--> ANY CONS?
The Zoom X4 has more ethernet ports, and I would have preferred that, since my ethernet hub is showing its age now. As with any...

Olympus CAMEDIA D 535 Zoom
Review of Olympus CAMEDIA D 535 Zoom by
stu_stu23
Advantages: easy to use, great quality photos
Disadvantages: uses batteries quite quickly(but you expect that from a high powered camera!)
...Well, firstly it a superb camera. I can bring it anywere and take snapshots becasue of its somewhat small size and also its low weight. I sit here right now and just think how they have built such an antonishing camera and given it all the features the really expensive ones have but into a size thats unbelievable.
The pictures come out great and every detail is caught becuase of its *3.2* megapixel CCD sensor. Also the camera has *12* zoom options(3x optical x 4x digital)-this adds to the great picture quality! NOw with these good pictures, you need a good screen to view them on. Well the 535 zoom comes standard and packed with a 1.5" colour LCD of 130,000 pixels. Its so fun to take pictures but then even more fun to view them maybe a couple months later either on the camera itself or if you use its cable to plug into the tv or pc...

The 3.1MP Trust 735S Powerc@m Zoom
Review of Trust 735S Powerc@m Zoom by
diverman
Advantages: Very small, good specification
Disadvantages: Flash underperforms, power hungry
...This would seem like a very good little package, and you would be correct. The camera has 3 main quality settings, up to a setting of 3.1MP, and the camera interpolates to 4.0MP. This camera has a x4 Digital zoom, which performs very well, but when using it to take a photo (as opposed to looking at them afterwards) then you need a steady hand. In the box you get lots of cool stuff, like a case, tripod, batteries, all the cd's etc and a neck strap. This camera is a competitor for the Sony DSC-U range (U10,U20,U30 and U40). As the sony is only 2.0MP, then its better in that respect, and its cheaper. However, on the downside, the camera is very power hungry. It comes with x2 Duracell AAA batteries, and these didnt last very long. If using the camera during the day, it takes great pictures, i had no complaints. The only problem is when...

A 4x4 for All
Review of Suzuki Jimny 1.3 by
chocolate26
Advantages: Easy to manoeuvre, fashionable, very economical and cheap.
Disadvantages: Lack of room in boot and not a great grip on wet tarmac.
...in what to purchase.
After a couple of weeks of shopping around I decided to buy a Jimny.
I bought a red Jimny.
****Is the Car Economical*******
The Jimny is a 16V, 1.3 size engine.
At the time a 1.3 was the biggest size available for the Jimny. Being a new model, it had recently taken over the Suzuki Vitara. The Jimny is a city 4x4, which means that it does not drink Petrol like there is no tomorrow.
It runs like a car on tarmac surfaces but can be used for 4x4 driving when needed.
The Jimny has an extra gear stick for 4x4 driving so you can use it for two different types of driving.
I personally know people who drive their Vitara's and Jimny's on very tough 4x4 courses and they cope very well.
However, these people are mechanics in the day so they are good at fixing the exterior of the cars, which makes them road worthy by day...
