Mmmmmmmmmmmm Stretchy Strawberry Laces.
PACKAGING The packaging says it all really, it is blatantly designed to attract kids, or big kids like myself. The packet is partly see-through so you can see the deliciousness that is Strawberry Laces staring you right in the face saying "Eat me, eat me". The rest of the packet normally has a cartoon on it of a little man playing with the laces (depending on which brand you buy), its brightly coloured and ... ...This review is about the strawberry ones that are bright red, but you can also get apple ones which are bright green and cola ones that are brown. Advantages: Fun to eat Disadvantages: Don't last very long
...review is of Asda's "Stretchy Strawberry Bootlaces". You will find these sweets in the sweeties aisle, amongst the bags of sweets. They will set you back the pricely sum of 38p for a 75g pack. Or, you can pick any 3 bags from this particular range for £1.
They come in a yellow packaged bag, with the words any 3 for £1 across the top. On the bag is a see-through area in the middle so you can see the laces inside, and around this clear part is the ... ...taste of strawberry. The strawberry smell is particularly evident when you open the packaging. It's lovely and fruity smelling, and it actually tastes of strawberry as well, and leaves a lovely aftertaste in your mouth. However, they do feel quite rubbery (they are glazed with a beeswax covering). They smell very fruity and they taste lovely, yet quite sweet.
I would definately recommend them!

...the Fruit Allsorts in 215gram bags, 400gram boxes and 800gram tins (but who on earth could eat that many?). The bags retail at around £1 in most supermarkets but will cost you double that at most petrol stations.
Opening the bag proves to be a veritable assault on the senses. The first thing that hits you is the smell. It is predominantly sweet and fruity but mostly sweet. Once my nose adjusted I began to pick up distinct whiffs of desiccated coconut and the smell of strawberrylaces. This smell reminded me that it has been some time since I had strawberrylaces. (Note to self: buy strawberrylaces) Peering into the bag could cost you your vision so please take care. Whereas the liquorice allsorts are muted pastel pinks, blues and yellows these fruit allsorts are bright. No, wait they are BRIGHT. They are vivid yellows, reds, oranges...

Advantages: Does contain some chocolate (if you're lucky)! Familiar shapes! Pleasant pastel colours like dolly mixture. Disadvantages: No liquorice/coconut, contains milk; cochineal/gelatin not suitable for vegetarians. Not all flavours appear.
...carefully removed the milky layers. The taste was mild, sweet, but unmistakably milk. The translucent layers are similar to the consistency of the strawberry-laces-red layers in the "Fruit Allsorts" and the black liquorice layers in the "Original Allsorts" and taste like a rubbery caramel fudge ~ sweet, and again very milky. Oh well, what did I expect? Another layer carefully removed after first taste.
What is left now?
The pale lemony outer circle of the "Lemon Pie" tastes like lemon curd in a fondant. I like that! The lemon layer from the "Lemon Cheesecake" is a much more elusive flavour and not as moist. The strawberry layers from "Strawberry Pie" and "Strawberry Cheesecake" are quite elusive and artificial, and not as sweet, with a faint aftertaste I cannot quite describe. Imagine a strawberrylace made of fondant instead of being...

...When I was a child every Saturday morning my mother would drag my sister and I into town. As a reward for behaving ourselves (and maybe just because it was Saturday) we would get to visit the pic ‘n’ mix. My mother watched us like a hawk as we picked out the sugary crap we wanted. Invariably my sister always got more but not by much. We tended to go for different things. I went for teeth and fried eggs, she went for cola bottles and giant strawberries. But we both went for astro belts. These were strips of strawberrylace stuff coated in sour sugar. And we were both mad for them.
The years passed and we grew up. Basically the trips to the pic ‘n’ mix stopped because we were now old enough to be left at home on our own without social services accusing either of my parents are abuse. No more astro belts for me or my sister...
