Advantages A very useful site to locate places
Disadvantages none
Ok, This isn't a site that will tell you if you are hot or not, you won’t find any nasty or yummy email attachments with an option of anonymous sender to p*** of your enemies or friends, and you don’t have to empty your history folder after visiting the site. No fun, glamour or hanky panky, then what’s use of the site? You must be thinking. Well believe me it’s still a very useful site and very easy to use.
Streetmap.co.uk is a site where you can find any street or place in UK(mainland only) with the map of the area displayed. The site is very simple and easy to use, and loads quickly. The layout and design of the site is average, nothing fancy, but remember you are looking for a map, not a date. On the home page you will find the search option. There are many options to search for your desired place.Search options
You can search by using the- The name of the street.
- By post code
- By telephone code
- By place like city, town or village etc.
- By OC grid reference.
- By land ranger grid reference.
- And by longitude and latitude (I am sure you won’t be using this one but the option is still there in case you have nothing better to do)
If you are a lazy person like me you can just type the first 3 letters of the city or town, like for London you can just type Lon, no offence will be taken and you will get the same service. If you are using the postcode option but not sure about the postcode or want to find out the post code of the area there is a link to the following web site where you can find the postcode.
www.royalmail.co.uk/paf.Another very useful feature is the URL of the map. With every map it’s URL is given, so if you want to inform somebody of a place just give them or email the URL and they can directly check out the map.
Linking with the siteIf you have a store or an office you can put a link on your site of the map of your place. This service is free. There are other services for which you have to pay like your map can be embedded on your site and they also provide consultancy but these can be pretty expensive and probably not suitable for small businesses.
You can link to them by postcode, grid reference or using outlook express, the details are given on the website.
So now you don’t have to be a road inspector to find a street in UK, just use your finger, but make sure you use the right one.

I searched the ciao site today to see if any comments had been posted about streetmap.co.uk as I find it very useful. For three months I have been undertaking a peripetetic role in my work and I rely very heavily on two sites for this: 1) www.theaa.co.uk - to find out a route map from NW London to wherever I am going and then 2) www.streepmap.co.uk to zoom into the area to check the local roads. They have got to be such useful tools that I would be lost without them now. Glad to see that so many other people have benefited to.
