'The leaky cauldron' is a haven for folks from the wizarding world. Witches and wizards can gather for a quick pint of butterbeer before hitting the shops in Diagon Alley. No, I have not gone crazy, I am referring to those wonderful Harry Potter books, which have children in the muggle world actually enjoying books again rather than spending their time shooting monsters on various machines.
WWW.the-leaky-cauldron.org is a web log dedicated to bringing its users breaking news in the Harry Potter world.
The site has one main page, which is white with various Harry Potter logos such as Hedwig, the hero of the books pet owl. The main page consists of various articles and news surrounding the Harry Potter phenomenon. There are interviews with the author JK Rowling, taken from other websites and newspapers. Reviews on the film 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets' and various pictures. The leaky cauldron is also one of the main Potter sites that has pictures and news of the latest Harry Potter film,(Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) which is currently in progress and will not be released untill 2004.
It was this site that first revealed who would be playing the major roles in the third Potter film. I found out that Mr Love God, Im sorry I mean Gary Oldman, will be playing Harry's Uncle 'Sirius Black' and they even showed photographs of Mr Oldman in costume!
The site has also revealed the extras currently being offered on the DVD of 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', which will be released on the 11th April 2003.
On the left hand side of the page is a menu bar, where you can look at archived gossip, read interviews with the cast of the films and contribute to the site should you have any Potter tales to tell. I thought the contribution element was a lovely touch to the site. Children, and no doubt adults, have had their tales of standing in the rain to catch a glimpse of the cast at Premieres, or running to London to catch the latest filming of the new film printed on this site. It adds an air of 'togetherness' and is no doubt reassuring to fans that they are not completely bonkers for catching the flu just to get Danielle Radcliffes (Boy who plays Harry Potter) scribbled signature.
The site is very easy to use, and is suitable for Harry Potter fans of all ages. The layout is simplistic without being boring and the news they bring is always ahead of the Official Harry Potter website. At the top of the page is a countdown to the release of the fifth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and it currently stands at 73 days. I felt this was a lovely touch creating a bit of excitement for its users.
www.the-leaky-cauldron.org, is a wonderful site for Harry Potter fanatics. Children will love the gossip and pictures from this site and possibly adults will too. For those of you who are not Harry Potter fans then this site will offer you nothing. It will probably try and convert you but every other person is already trying to do that. I would still recommend a quick peek if just to help pass that last hour before work finishes and play begins.
