"Thompson and Morgan, seedsmen"

Thompson and Morgan's catalogue (online and print) is interesting and filled with wonderful seeds you can grow. My wife is not keen on buying plants that have already been started. "Where is the fun in that?" she muses. "Don't people know the true joy of growing from seed?"

It has to be said that she has a good point and that the Thompson and Morgan website certainly helps her to fulfil her ambition of not buying ready started plants, buy providing a truly magnificent range of seeds that you can plant and thus grow yourself, from scratch.

The web site is easy to navigate and has simple, easy to read and easy to understand instructions for even the Internet virgin.

There's a cheery introduction by Michael Perry, the specialist project manager, which contains a promise that if you are not satisfied, then Thompson and Morgan will replace the plant or give you a refund.

Thompson and Morgan have been in business since 1855 and, to this day, they are still just as eager and as enthusiastic about plants as they ever were and are constantly striving to develop new and better strains of seeds and plants.

You will often see displays of Thompson and Morgan prize vegetables and blooms and county shows and also garden and flower shows, so confidant are Thompson and Morgan in what you can buy from them.

The facilities on the website are excellent. There's a very good search function (with "deep" searches available) the help and information section is most helpful with terms and conditions, shipping details and how to order.

The range of plants is, as ever, fantastic. There are also plenty of gardening books for sale, with a respectable 20% discount on gardening books. Can't find the book you want? There' a link to a book finding service, too.

Thompson and Morgan also has a guestbook and a page of a large number of useful links for gardeners. There's also a range of gifts (mainly to do with gardening, some not) which make ideal presents for the gardener and perhaps the non-gardener, too.

The website also hints and tips sections, many specialist sub-catalogues and news and latest information can also be viewed.

There' are links to a variety of online catalogues and I will probably be ordering some Chilli peppers form them again, this year. Perhaps some tomatoes and maybe I might even be tempted to try some brasicas for the first time in years…

My wife has been using Thompson and Morgan seeds for many years. Her order is about to go in for next season's plants. And, of course, all grown from seed, you know!

Thompson and Morgan can be more expensive than other brands but they are certainly the best in my eyes. They have such wonderful flowers and they all seem to grow as well. I have never really thought about sending a plant back so I would not know about their complaints service. I had not thought about looking on the web for them as I usually get their catalogue. Growing and nurturing your own plants is a lovely feeling. Linda
