This site, www.time2bcool.com, offers a text message service along with a range of other facilities, all geared to communicating with people. Aimed at the younger generation, you can set up blind date chats, or arrange meetings with friends and earn cool points which are time2bcool’s virtual currency.
On arrival at time2bcool you need to register to use any of the facilities they offer. You’ll meet Tyra on the homepage who will remind you of this. “Hi, I'm Tyra, as your personal agent I'll accompany you through time2bcool. Join free as a new user and off we go. See you!”
The registration process is simple, requiring just a few details...

... and once filled in, Tyra appears again with a message telling you she’s transferred 50 cool points to your account. It’s these cool points that allow you to send text messages.
So, to send a message, you click on the SMS link on the left hand side of the page. Simply enter the number to which you want your message to go, type out your message (currently restricted to 130 characters) and send.
If the mobile number your message is being sent to is recognized by time2bcool (ie the owner is a registered user, and submitted their mobile phone number during registration) then your message will be sent for free.
Should the number not be recognized (ie that mobile owner is not a member of time2bcool, or didn’t give their mobile number during registration) it reminds you that you will be ‘spending’ 2 cool points to send your message, and gives you the option to still send it, or enter their email address and email them instead for free.
So, for a simple sign up process taking less than a minute, you can send 25 text messages. So far, so good, but what next? In order to gain more cool points after your initial 50 have been used, you need to invite friends to join up, or use the ’dating’ service that the site seems to be predominately about.
The site is not based in the UK, a lot of the information is in German only, and the majority of members seem to be of overseas locations, so for UK residents I’m not even sure the other site facilities would be available. All in all, as a SMS site, it’s not really worth it when other sites will offer you an unlimited messaging service without Tyra and her damned cool points!
I should add though, in defense of the site, the messages I sent were very quick to arrive. (And I apologise if you are the person who received a rather garbled and mis-spelt message when I typed in my mobile number wrongly)

Time2bcool.com promised to be so much more than just a Web SMS gateway, with Tyra its host, who had more than a passing resemblence, in terms of stature, of Lara Croft. The site was based around Germany and Austria, although it offered SMSes to a lot of other countries. The concept was cool and this doubled up as a place to meet other people, and flirt via SMS, as well as organising dates in German or Austrian cities. Great for me, being domiciled ... ...to read today (25/6/01) that time2bcool.com is about to cease service, and Tyra is on her way to the .com graveyard. Time2bcool.com was just fighting against too many competitors, and due to the fact that its SMS service was not up to scratch, despite offering up to 700 character SMSes (received in chunks) it was clear that the site would not be able to last in face of stiff competition. The service was generally slow, the site design best described ...
