This product died on me just out of warranty on an acer laptop. I now need to buy another sata 2.5 hdd and reinstall all software. NOT HAPPY in toshiba spec it gives it 5yers life time not in this case.

Take a look at the Seagate forums for the dozens of people with problems with these drives. They tend to need to be powered up separately to the computer on every reboot or the drive is not recognised and wishes to be reformatted. Garbage .. avoid it and all the Maxtor Basics line up. Seagate will ignore complaints about it.

Seriously, if you want to buy one of these to go with a Mac: don't! Stick to Lacie! I've had nothing but trouble with mine. A dog. Looks quite nice, but the star was awarded because you can't enter 0 stars, which is what I was trying to give it. Avoid at all costs! Ian

I have been very impressed with this drive - it feels sturdy, it has a built in usb cable (so you can't forget it) and the rubber coating feels like it would protect the drive if it was dropped (I haven't tested this aspect - however carrying it around in my bag for a year it has suffered bumps). Contrary to the other reviewer I have used this drive on both a Vaio and a MacBook Air and it has worked flawlessly
