Dine at The Turtle Restaurant
Review of La Tortue Restaurant, Honfleur, Normandy, France by denella

Advantages: Excellent food, service and atmosphere
Disadvantages: No outdoor seating; upstairs toilets

Before visiting Honfleur, Normandy, for the day I looked at the Ciao France website to see if there were any reviews of restaurants in the town. All I found, however, was a piece of advice that recommended avoiding the restaurants on the waterfront, which ... Read review

The fabric of history
Review of Museum of the Bayeux Tapestry (Musee de la Tapisserie de Bayeux), Bayeux, Basse- by JVL

Advantages: One of history's great stories, well-presented with an excellent audio guide
Disadvantages: It can get crowded in the main room

According to my parents, I had seen the Bayeux tapestry on a family holiday to France many years ago, but I was too young for it to have made any impression on me. So, when on a trip to Normandy and Brittany earlier this summer, I had to take the opportun ... Read review

I believe it's traditional that some boring pedant point out that 'it isn't a tapestry, it's actually an embriodery' at some point...;-) by greenierexyboy
Good review. I took my family there many years ago and remember trying to explain to my younger son, then about six, why it was interesting, only to have him retort: "I'm bored of interesting things." by torr

Advantages: beautiful architecture and atmosphere
Disadvantages: why should it have any! well, kinda expensive to hang around

The undiscovered Normandy
Review of Normandy (France) by onverra

Advantages: Relatively unknown to English tourists
Disadvantages: I can't think of any

All the reviews I have read have been on 'Basse Normandie'. Whilst this area certainly has its attractions (you can't argue with the Bayeux Tapestry or the Landing Beaches) so many English people are missing out on the secret attractions of 'Haute Norman ... Read review

Quick review of Caen Memorial (Le Memorial de Caen), Mont-St-Michel, Basse-Normandie, Normandy
Review of Caen Memorial (Le Memorial de Caen), Mont-St-Michel, Basse-Normandie, Normandy by emlakbanski

Hi I HAVE JUST RETURNED AFTER A TEN DAY TRIP IN OUR CAMPER AROUND NORMANDY AS FAR SOUTH AS MONT-SAINT-MICHEL. IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA YOU MUST TAKE A TRIP ACROSS THE CAUSEWAY TO THE MONT. A USEFUL TIP IS TO PARK UP FIRST (SAVING THE QUEUES AND 16 EURO PARKING) AND STROLL THE 1.5 KM TO THE MONT. THE ABBEY IS TRUELY SPECTACULAR BOTH BY DAY AND NIGHT. WE FOUND THAT THE AREA UP THE COAST IS STEEPED IN HISTORY AND FACINATING IF THE SECOND WORLD WAR IS YOUR BAG. TEN DAYS WAS CERTAINLY NOT ENOUGH AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO A RETURN TRIP NEXT YEAR WITH THE BEAUTIFUL CITY OF CAEN AS OUR BASE

Quick review of La Paix, Forges-les-Eaux, France
Review of La Paix, Forges-les-Eaux, France by Jack75001

This hotel is not as good as it should be. The rooms are very simple with blank walls (not very cleans) and Internet access is not free, quite expensive. In my room, the toilet was repaired with tape, the window's closing system was broken, the shower was partialy inusable and the floor not very clean. 71 euros the room without A/C, without breakfast (add 6,5 euros / P), without free Internet Access, it's expensive ! Even if the rooms are not so good, the staff is very good and very helpfull.

Quick review of Citotel 'Le Patton', Avranches
Review of Citotel 'Le Patton', Avranches by bartymum

we stayed one night in this hotel, and whilst one of the rooms was ok being light and airy the other was not. it was dark and overbearing as were the corridors which were a bit creepy and scared our youngest child. whilst this hotel may be ok for "young people" who just want somewhere to sleep it was not suitable for children/ families. the rooms were clean, but there was evidence of damp in both bathrooms which were also a little tatty. we felt one of the beds was damp and there was an overwhelming smell of urine. however this hotel is cheap and and the staff were very helpful and friendly we may have just got what we paid for!

Review of Museum of the Bayeux Tapestry (Musee de la Tapisserie de Bayeux), Bayeux, Basse- by delilahb

Advantages: Get to see a reproduction of the tapestry up close with clear explanations of what is going on in every scene
Disadvantages: The conveyor belt feeling you can get when viewing the actual tapestry on a busy day

The Museum of the Bayeux Tapestry makes a great family day out and a chance to see how the French portray this important piece of history. On entering the museum, you pass through a larger than life reproduction of the tapestry, with an audio commentary a ... Read review

I think you could usefully give some more detail. From what I remember it is a very large and impressive building and with some excellent exhibits, but you only mention maps, films and soldiers' letters. I agree with you about visitng it before the D-Day beaches - perhaps you could say why. by Chouchinciao
Last time (July 2006) I went to the Memorial, entry price for an Adult was 17.50 €, 16.00 € for students and 5 € for Residents of Caen (Caennais). by nomi_a
