Pao de Acucar - art deco splendour
Review of Residencial Pao de Acucar, Porto by
casadacha
Advantages: very beautiful, helpful staff
Disadvantages: interesting bathrooms
I have stayed at the Pao de Acucar twice and have enjoyed it both times.
It has a fantastic art deco staircase and art deco furniture in the lobby and also in the rooms.
The rooms vary, some have very old fashioned (art deco?) bathrooms - we had one ...

casadacha

I have stayed here a few nights when arriving at Porto airport on evening flights. I have always found the rooms to be clean and of a reasonable size, with good bathroom facilities.

Great for plane spotters
Review of Ipanema Park Hotel, Porto by
jtamagnini
Advantages: Good location to transport links
Disadvantages: Can be a noisy night
The Ipanema Park is now about 15 year old and needing a bit of TLC however it is still a great hotel. It is located near Pasteleira which is a social housing area but do not be detracted from it. As with all major European cities it is also near Boavista ...

Puts the Tate modern to shame
Review of Fundacao de Serralves (Museu Nacional de Arte Moderna), Porto by
jtamagnini
Advantages: Great transport links, city centre location
Disadvantages: can be difficult to find way in
This foundation/museum/park is in just next to Avenida Boavista in Porto. It has a local taxi rank next to it and plenty of bus stops. The entrance is hidden down a side alley but once you find it you will find yourself in a time warp.
The building i ...

I've heard of hospitality but this is takes the biscuit! We wanted to see a Port wine cellar but the tour operator wanted to charge us 50 euros so we decided to go independent for once and got a taxi instead (4 euros!)

Fabulous views over a great city
Review of Se (Cathedral), Porto by
jtamagnini
Advantages: Great access to it by public transport as it is in main shopping district,
Disadvantages: No access for disabled and lots of steps
This is not the biggest Cathedral or the most picturesque Cathedral to be seen but a great landmark in the city. It is built in the highest point in Oporto and can be seen from all over the city.
When we visited this place entrance was completely up t ...

Paths that climb up and go down to Carmo, to Clerigos, to Lapa.
Narrow streets inhabited by tiles, balconies and dreams.
An austere granite profile accustomed to the mist int ...
