Advantages: Cheap maintenance for your pads.

Yamaha Powder Pads
What the chuff are these Paul? I hear you ask.
Well, quite simply they are small sheets of paper that have a very slight dusting of powder (like talcum) on one side. Like a pad saver (brush), a crook cleaner and a mouthpiece guard ...

Elkhart 100TH Eb Tenor (Alto) Horn
Review of Elkhart 100TH Series Eb Tenor Horn by
Lumbricus
Advantages: Build quality, appearance and tone. Excellent soft case.
Disadvantages: Very minor intonation issues in the upper register.
For the amazing price of this instrument (I paid around the £150 mark) it is an excellent horn for a player of beginner or intermediate standard. It is beautifully proportioned in the traditional saxhorn style - far more appealing to my eye than the open ...

Does not cramp my style at all.
Review of Buffet Crampon Dynaction Alto Saxophone by
paulhanton
Advantages: Great sound, easy player.
Disadvantages: Expensive, hard to find parts.
*~*~*~~Some background~~*~*~*
I started learning to play Alto Saxophone in December 2006. The first saxophone that I had (still have as a spare) was a Trevor James Artemis, cost me about £350. Within 10 months I decided that I wanted something that sou ...

Quick review of Buescher Cornet
Review of Buescher Cornet by
shaolin805
I have played this same model Buescher cornet for 21 years that belonged to my Great Grandfather. Recently invested $800 to have it restored. Well worth having around for another 100 years. These older style Bueschers are quality instruments. Great for beginner or pro.

Quick review of Schilke S32 Bb Trumpet
Review of Schilke S32 Bb Trumpet by
Robbiethelips
I've owned a Vin Bach and Stomvi but decided to try a Schilke and to be honest the difference was marked, for a slight increase in price I noticed that it was a real step up.I also changed my warburton mouthpiece from a 3MC to a 3D with a B9 shank and since then I have a 3 octave range going from a bottom F# to G above C it also blows a super C on occasion when I'm blowing well.It crosses Classical playing to Jazz and records beautifully and since trying a Taylor Chicago Custom to compare was glad to get back on my Shcilke as the Taylor wasn't a patch on my Schilke.

I've had this flute for almost eight years and it is still in great condition and plays beautifully. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a quality c-Flute. Probably not best for new/beginner players though, it's a bit heavy. ...

Antoni Debut 4/4 Cello Outfit
Review of Antoni Debut 4/4 Size Cello by
amanda89
I just bought this cello from a music shop locally. It comes fitted with super-sensitive red label strings worth about 55 pounds, so these are really good. The keys are slipping a bit, but not badly for a brand new cello. It looks absolutely beautiful, ...

Five Silver Stars for this Harp
Review of Hohner Silver Star C Harmonica by
JeffFromPoole
Advantages: Great price and value, top quality instrument
Disadvantages: None
I have been playing the harmonica for over thirty years.
Of all the instruments I play this is the one that have done best at, probably because it is the least anti-social, most portable and most convenient. Being a lot quieter that most of my music ...

It's Finger Pickin' Good
Review of Tanglewood TB18-5 5-String Banjo by
JeffFromPoole
Advantages: great sound, unusual
Disadvantages: more expensive than a similar standard guitar
Yes I'm back with yet another instrument from my music collection. This one isn't deafening or wind intensive, doesn't make the cats run for the hills or incur the wrath of the neighbours.
Last year I got an extremely rare thing, an award from my empl ...

Quick review of Meason Bassoon Reeds
Review of Meason Bassoon Reeds by
mrsk9sp
I purchased my daughter a Meason reed and the very first time she used it, it cracked. The reed has a noticeable dip or flaw where it cracked. I was not aware that I needed to take the reed out at purchase and check for this. (Yes she did soak if before using it) I am searching online for a place to return the reed as the store Hot Licks will not take the reed back. So currently I am very unhappy with the Meason reed.

One of the best beginner models on the market
Review of Yamaha 211 Silver-plated by
PhilThePenguin
Advantages: Excellent build quality and intonation
Disadvantages: The usual limitations of a beginner instrument
This was my first serious flute, bought second-hand, and lasted me from Grade 1 to almost Grade 8 before I upgraded to £2000 worth of Miyazawa. These days its condition is best described as 'well-loved' but it's certainly still playable.
Although this ...
