i thought it would be a lovely collection 2 have for my daughter for the future but realised it's not worth the money you pay for them. The books arent very big or thick and the cd storys don't sound very disney like, with strange sayings and voices for characters. I will most definately be cancelling my subscription

Advantages: Funny. Great Saturday night family entertainment.

I have been reading books from Oprah's Book Club for over ten years. The book club first started in 1997 with the Deep Blue Sea and is still going strong most recently with 2008's Edgar Sawtelle. I find the book club to be mostly comprised of interesting books. I have not read every book but have read three of the last four. I recently read the great Ken Follet saga The Pillars of the Earth which followed a Middle Ages family through two generations with their struggle to survive . I also read Middlesex which was a teen's struggle to confirm their gender identity. The New Earth by Eckhart Tolle is a new age religious sort of book. I liked some of the earlier books also like Black and Blue and She's come undone. All in all I recommend Oprah Book club books because I think you will find some thought provoking reading material.

Good review. I was under the impression that he was actually quite well-known - at least, I've always known of him since I was a child and have read several of his books, and had seen Twilight Zone episodes with his name as writer - but maybe I'm the exception! He is a brilliant writer and does come up with some original ideas and story twists. by thereddragon

We ordered books for our daughter's birthday and for party bags allowing plenty of time. Books did not arrive. No contact from the book people. Re rang them to be told that the books were "still in the warehouse because there had been a delay". They woudl not tell us why, simply crossly saying that they "were busy". When we asked to speak to someone who coudl tell us when they would arrive the lady hung up. When we askd a second lady when they would arrive, explainin that we had needed them for the birthay she said "whell you obviously did not need them for the birthday if you still want them now".
