As a student, Natwest's offers were very attractive when looking for an account. However the service I have received has been terrible. My rail card was sent to my bank, but the bank claim they haven't received it. And this was only after two weeks of me calling and being continually promised that I would receive a call back. No body knows what anyone else in the company is doing. The incentives are a waste of time. I should have paid £24 for my railcard and stuck with good, old reliable Barclays. Students, be warned!

nationwide are utterly inept. They seem incapable of getting anything right. Whatever interest i have earned with Nationwide. has ben wiped out by the cost of endless telephone calls, not to mention the huge amount of time wasted trying to solve problems. Avoid at all costs. A comlpete liability to bank with. Breathtakingly amateur.

Halifax are quick to repossess

The Chelsea Building Society is fine if you are able to use a branch service and if you are prepared to keep an eye on changes to savings rates etc. Personally have not needed to use postal or telephone services so cannot comment on these. Absence of an internet banking/svings service is a pain but the website information service is useful. Current savings offerings are competitive, for example fixed rate bonds, and I have always found it easy to switch accounts to a better offering

I was looking at buying some new bedroom furniture so me and my partner thought we would get an argos card to spread the cost a little. We succeeded in getting the card and was asked by one of the store workers if we would like to pay by direct debit i said yes she said she would set that up for me in store. i was on a buy now pay 3 months later all was good till i got a letter saying that i had been charged 12 pounds late payment fee and also had 300 pounds taken off my credit limit reason being because the lady in the shop didn't set up my direct debit. customer services was no help at all to me.
