My Top Ten soap characters
I’m soap mad especially Eastenders, although Corrie and Emmerdale have a very special place in my heart. They have been around forever. Some of my favorite soap characters are no longer in soaps but they still deserve a mention. Sorry theres no Brookside I cant stand it.

1. Grant Mitchell (Eastenders)
This guy has to be one of the sexist characters on the television. The character was brilliant he was as rough as they come with a nice side as long as you didn’t cross him. For years he was in Eastenders as Phil’s brother and the other half of their menacing duo. Together they owned the Queen Vic and the arches. Nothing was too bad for grant Mitchell he committed arson when he set light to the Queen Vic pub for the insurance and domestic violence beating up his then wife Sharon. He even tried to kill his brother.

2. Dot Branning (Eastenders)
Dot is brilliant the character is ever changing. For years she was devoted to her Charlie and Nick. Sadly she had to learn the hard way when Nick tried to kill Mark fowler and accidentally killed his own son Ashley, the grandson that dot adored. Now she has a new life with a man that loves her just for been her not what he can get out of her. Eastenders isn’t Eastenders with out Dot puffing away on a fag drinking a tomato juice in the queen Vic.

3.Chris Tate (Emmerdale)
I think this character is great, moody controlling and rich. He thinks that because he has got money he is entitled to treat people how he likes. Chris has got many different sides to him. He can be cruel and nasty in one scene and then he can be protective and loving in the next.

4. Zack Dingle (Emmerdale)
The most lovable rogue on TV. It would be great if he could one-day pull off a good robbery but everyone knows its not going to happen. If ever there was a sure sign that crime doesn’t pay then Zack is it.

5. Sarah –Louise Platt (corrie)
I think this character is great. The way Corrie show how hard it is for mums at school is spot on. I can remember Sarah-Louise been born. She really has put her mum Gail through hell. She has showed the dangers of underage sex, chat rooms and joyriding.

6. Steve McDonald (Corrie)
This character has gone from good to bad to good to a bit of both. You have to feel sorry for him. He had a mum that looked like mutton dressed up has lamb. A dad that was ex army gone out of control. A brother that was a goody two shoes and now he has got Karen. What a mouth that woman has.

7. Mo Harris (Eastenders)
What a Nan to have around. No-one crosses Mo if they know what is good for them. She is not your typical grandparent .She really showed her good side when Sonja was in labour with baby cloe. How many Nans would talk dirty over a mobile to get the money for their granchildrens market stall? She has always got one or another dodgy deal going on that the family doesn’t know about.

8. Lofty Holloway (Eastenders)
In case you don’t remember him he used to work in the Vic. He married Michelle Fowler but it didn’t work out.

I'm a bit of a latecomer to Eastenders, so never saw much of Angie and Den, but agree about Chris Tate and Sarah Platt! I also just love Kat Slater and hope they develop Gus's character a bit, I find him interesting. But the best new soap character for years has just got to be... Alfie Moon! Great op - Catherine
