I am usually the typical non-racing punter, i.e. I have my bet on the National, but don't bother at any other time of the year, and other than organising a few bets over the Rugby World Cup with my flatmates, for a bit of fun, I tend to stay clear of betting. Robbed of my traditional punt on the Grand National, I decided to bet over the Net this year, as I had been wanting to put bets down for the forthcoming Ashes Series.
I went to Totalbet.com, as they were offering the best odds on the Grand National. They offer betting on Horse Racing, Football, Rugby (both codes), Cricket, Golf, Formula One, Snooker, American Football, Boxing and Greyhound Racing.
To be able to bet you have to set up an account, which is done by filling out the usual name-address-location type of form, and this includes your log-in details. There are two security questions should you forget your password, and the process takes a couple of minutes. Thereafter you are required to make a deposit into your account, via a debit card (i.e. Solo, Switch or Electron) which then is creditted to your totalbet.com account. You can then place bets.
You can only bet upto the amount in your account, and there are also maximum stakes of £75-100 on various events. You have the choice of win bets or each way bets, in most competitions, other than "two horse" races! You can choose your stake, and whether you want to pay the 2% betting tax at the time of making your bet, or when you win.
With eachway, the payout conditions vary from race to race, in terms of places covered (1st to 4th in the Grand National 1st to 3rd in other horse races) and final places in other events. There are also specific bets available e.g. goals scored, first scorer, final scorer, half-time/full-time spreads etc. to allow you all the options that are traditionally available.
In general you're better off doing it when you stake, although if you want to be ten pounds and pay your betting tax you will need £10.20 in your account to do so. Of course, if you choose to pay it on your winnings, you won't pay any tax if you lose, but it is higher if you do win than it would have been otherwise.
You get a betting slip in a pop-up that confirms your choice. The account is easy to manage and it is very easy to set up bets, and then monitor them from your account, which the possibility of searching your account by date when you placed the bet.
The problem of course, it that it is all so easy, so if you are a gambler you have to be careful as you can easily get sucked into it, and at the same time not even have to leave the comfort of your own home. totalbet.com doesn't accept credit cards for obvious reasons, and provided you use it prudently there is no reason why you can't have fun with it, without the dirty image of bookies shops.

Advantages: Simple, easy to use, good money to be made Disadvantages: You can lose - and it hurts!!
Six months ago I had never placed a bet in my whole life (strange but true)!!. My first foray into the world of online betting was on the national this year and after this I was hooked – mainly I think because I kept winning!!!
Anyway after registering with eurobet and bet247 – and getting my free money – I registered with totalbet – who don’t incidentally offer you anything for free when you do join.
Totalbet is run by the Tote and by Sportinglife ... ...a full range of bets on the vast majority of sports – pretty much like most other on-line bookies – word of warning though the odds can sometimes look a little strange, as they don’t quote them in the same way as the mainstream bookies.
However the best thing about the Tote and the thing that keeps me going back time after time is the placepots that they run.
A placepot is a bet which allows you pick a number of horses in any given race on a day ...

Advantages: ease of use Disadvantages: no tote bets
This was my first foray into the world of on-line betting and the ease
of use of the site has made the experience a pleasant one.
The bets covered include most popular sports and betting was also allowed
while games were in progress during euro2000 football.
When I first joined tax was 9% but since then it has now dropped to 2%
which I find a small price to pay.
The big advantage in my opinion is that you can place a bet on a race,
leave the ... ...back whenever you feel the urge for another bet, connect to the
net again and be able to place another bet in seconds without going
through the login screen again.
Some may see this as a security failure but each to his own.
The downside is that they have been promising Tote bets for over 18 months
now and we are still no nearer getting them!
Ciao! ...
