Totalise, the UK based ISP, allows users to access their email in a number of intriguing ways. Their webmail service, which is completely free, offers users many options to access their email, together with a massive 50MB of storage per account - and users can have up to 5 email accounts!
The mail account can be accessed by any web-browser in the world by entering the user name and password. Once in webmail, the screens and icons are arranged very clearly indeed, making the application incredibly user-friendly. It is full-featured offering create message, read, delete, forward, indexes, online folders for organising messages, signatures etc. Unlike other webmail services, Totalise Webmail only holds one advertisement per screen. The webmail service has received excellent press reviews and was mentioned when Totalise won an ISPA award.
2. POP-3
The mail stored on the Totalise account can be accessed using a POP3 server at Totalise - which is as easy as adding the settings on Outlook Express or an alternative mail program. What's more, you do not need to be connected over a Totalise connection in order to access the Totalise mail server.
3. Speechmail
A very clever service - you can access your Totalise mailbox using just a normal telephone! Once you have registered for Speechmail you will receive a personalised ID number and be able to select your own four digit PIN. You can then phone Totalise Speechmail and the items in your mailbox will be read to you over the phone by the computer. If you wish to reply, you can select "reply" from the voice menu, and your reply will be recorded over the telephone and sent as a .wav attachment on an email!
This service also includes options to delete unwanted mail, and generally keep your mailbox in order. The service is free to join and calls are charged at the standard national rate.
4. WAP
If you have a WAP phone you can access your Totalise mailbox using this.
Using Totalise mail you need never be without your messages. So what about your old email account? Won't it be a pain to tell all your friends you have moved to Totalise? To check two email accounts?
They've thought of this too. When you join Totalise Mail, also register at Collectmymail.com. This service automatically collects mail from your old pop3 and mail accounts and delivers it to your new Totalise account!
I have been using Totalise mail for over two years and have never had any problems with it. A great service.
