I don’t know about you, but when I am looking for a new job, and in this day and age of new technologies, I want a user-friendly online website, where you can search and apply for jobs with ease. Well, now you can with totaljobs.com.
Let me tell you about my experiences with using totaljobs.com. You don’t really need training to use these websites and if you have got a good head on your shoulders, it doesn’t take long to find out what this website has and can offer you. Don’t get me wrong, for those of you who are not familiar with online recruitment and, in turn, not familiar with using the internet, this website offers full on screen instructions on how to search for that perfect job you’ve always wanted.
The totaljobs.com logo is written in lower case, white font and is imbedded on a dark blue circular, oblong shape. This appears on an orange background, which is all part of the title bar at the top of the screen. This title bar has everything you need to navigate the website. Simple drop down boxes labelled: Find a Job, Register your CV, Jobs by Email, Get Advice, Know you Stuff.
Just a little information about these drop down boxes include: Find a Job - you are given the option to search by industry, location, company, agency. Register your CV - CV profile and registration, CV Checker, CV Advice, CV Writer Jobs by Email - Register for Jobs by email (email alerts for recently placed adverts that match your skills, background knowledge and experiences) Get Advice - this is vast and has lots of advice concerning all levels of recruitment, whether it be free legal advice, surviving the job hunt, promotion potential, returning back to work (maybe after having a baby or illness etc.), just to name a few. As I say the list is vast. Know your Stuff - Salary checker (this is like a salary survey, where you can enter your location requirements, the profession you work and the website calculates the salary you should be seeking, realistically.
You have to register your CV with totaljobs.com to enable you to apply for jobs successfully. Once your CV is registered with totaljobs.com, that CV will then be used for each and every application for the future. You can logon to “My Totaljobs” by entering your username (your email address, which you provide at the registration stage) and password (again the password you provide at the registration stage), and update your CV at any time. At registration stage, you a given a choice should you wish to be headhunted. You simply tick the box relating to this and this enables employers to search the CV database for candidates with the relevant skills, background, knowledge and experiences they are looking for their own company or via recruitment agencies. Please note, If you do not wish to be headhunted and you do not tick the box your CV, including all your personal data (contact numbers, address etc.) will remain private and confidential (totaljobs.com do state they make every effort to comply to the 1998 Data Protection Act).
Once you have successfully registered the desired CV you want to provide on all your applications, you are ready to start searching for jobs. Whatever your profession and whatever industry you work in, the home page allows you to search for jobs easily by searching for the specific profession you either currently work in or would ideally like to work within.
All you have to do is “click” on a category. For example; if you are a Secretary and looking for the next step up your career ladder, looking for a bigger company, bigger salary package, simply click on the category “Secretary, PA’s, Administration” and the site takes you through full on screen instructions to widen your search, by allowing you to tick boxes for your criteria (what type/level of role are you looking for? Where do you want to work? What location? For example; whether it be South East or South West (they cover the whole of the UK and International too).
Having completed this, one screen, search fields, you are ready to submit the details and wait a few seconds for the site to recognise and match your criteria with the Vacancy database.
You are now presented with a number of suitable vacancies that match the criteria you inputted. If you are not happy with what the database comes up with, simply hit the “Back” arrow and you can re-define your search by entering more or less information to help you.
Should you come across a job that sounds fantastic, go for it. Apply!
Once you click on Apply, the site asks you for your username and password (that’s if you are not already logged in of course) and it automatically takes you to your “My Totaljobs” and allows you to apply for the position with the CV that is saved in your “My Totaljobs”.
The site asks if you are a member of the EU and eligible to work in the UK, this is a compulsory field and for protection purposes only.
You can also write as many Application Letters as you want, as these all get stored in your “My Totaljobs” and at Apply stage of the process, you can choose from a drop down box, which Application Letter applies to that vacancy. Each vacancy is different to the next and is useful to have a selection of Application Letters to choose from.
Once you are happy with the Applying process, all boxes are ticked, the correct Application Letter has been selected, then you are ready to submit the application. Click on Submit Details button at the bottom of the page.
A few minutes later, you will receive an email confirmation, thanking you for your application, relating to the particular vacancy and should you have any queries, please contact the company direct and not totaljobs.com.
At the beginning of the year I decided, after 5 years of working with my current employer, and also due to company politics (don’t you just hate company politics), I decided it was time to move on and better my career. I used totaljobs.com, and if I am honest it has taken four months to find the right move for me. The agencies recruiting for my particular profession were very good, very professional, provided great customer services, provided interviews of great value to me and met my criteria and finally I have found something that is PERFECT for me. I am currently working my notice with my current employer, who I must say have been very good to me, they see this step in my career ladder a great opportunity for me and wish me all the luck in the world. I start my new job on 17th May 2004.
I would definitely recommend this website if you are seeking a new job, or even just to see what is out there, what could be available to you. Always keep your options open, there could be a great opportunity especially for you and your skills, background, knowledge and experiences.
Advantages: Used by many Employment Agencies Disadvantages: Rarely have a one to one interview with recruiting agency
Looking for a suitable job nowdays is a very daunting task. I have spent hours on the internet searching for agencies who are either local to my residence or recruit within my specified area.
I found 'Totaljobs' along the way and decided to register my details and my C.V. on the site. The process wasn't too painful ( all form filling takes time wherever you go )but once completed your details are there for all enquiring candidate seekers.
Most ... ...i.e. Committed; Confident; Punctual; Teamworker etc to aid them in their search for a suitable candidate. It is, therefore, essential that you make sure these words are included in your C.V. to enable the computer to 'pick-up' on these keywords and bring your name up for selection upon prospective employers sifting through the thousands of names on this database.
Within a few days I received a phone call from an agency in London who were searching ...

Advantages: Categorisation, amount/quality of information, ease of searching Disadvantages: Can give you too many options/be too broad sometimes
Of the many on-line recruitment agencies and similar websites out there, Totaljobs is the only one that seems to organise itself in a way that seems logical and makes complete complete sense to me. The categories are straightforward: "Banking, Insurance, Finance"; "Graduate, Trainees"; "Public...." and so on. It just seems to me to categorise careers/jobs/industries in a way that means I can view the majority of the jobs I want to in one easy go.

Advantages: Easy to navigate Disadvantages: Be careful of agents putting you forward for jobs before even meeting you
After recently being made redundant I searched the web and found total jobs. It's pleasing to the eye and easy to navigate. I found loading my info a bit time consuming, but once done that's it for ever and you can change your details very easily.
Within two days had a call from one agent who had spotted me there and wanted to meet me, sadly though nothing as yet.
Another called and this one I was concerned about as after a ten minute chat on the ...
