I am 28 years of age, and I must admit, I like to have an opinion about nearly everything. So something like this is ideal for me to express my views to others.
I have recently used www.uswitch.co.uk to change energy provider. I was paying for both gas & electricity through the same provider. I received a letter throught the post one day informing myself that the rates for both were going to be increased. This immediately angered me and so I set about getting a better deal. I found uswitch with the help of www.greasypalm.co.uk & the t.v. adverts. The advantage of going through greasy palm was that they offered £9.00 cashback deal!
The first thing to do is to provide you post code. This will create a list of suppliers. The actual web site itself is littered with helpful pop ups to provide help if unsure.
After spending approximately 15 minutes on the uswitch website it was all completed. The website itself offers a comparison of providers with no hassle of a salesman being pushy. Once completed, your information is passed directly to the new supplier who will start to set up your new account. The whole process of switching takes approximately 5 week, with the new and old suppliers communicating to each other, and opening and closing accounts. The actual energy contract is a rolling 28 day contract, so you will not be breaking it if you choose to switch. In the end, it is you choice to switch in the first place!Every step of the switch is co-ordinated with both parties to make sure the switch is trouble free. Both companies will contact you to make sure that you are aware of what is going on.
The best that I found was Scottish Power. I switched from Southern, which dealt with both gas & electricity. The move actually saved me about £10 a month in total. On top of this, Scottish power has also promised not to move their prices for 2 years. This great as it is the main reason why I was actually going to switch in the first place!
The only thing that you have to do after completing the application, is to settle any outstanding bills with the old supplier, if any. You will also have to provide the meter reading to both new and old (in order to close and open the accounts).
The best part is that all the donkey work and the chasing up is done by somebody else! All together it has taken a month to switch, of which I am now paying less overall and due a rebate for my gas!

Hi there - I have used Uswitch as well. It would have been useful if you had expanded a little more on the process eg how you need to enter postcode, details of previous energy usage etc.

A lot more information on this review would give higher ratings.
Advantages: Simple-to-use, reliable site, which could save you quite a bit of money! Disadvantages: You might need to pay your current supplier quite a bit of money too!
