Advantages: Good potential, great customer service Disadvantages: Guiding issues, no traffic, too many features, buggy, dire navigation
Many people in the opinionating world have their site of choice. For a long time, it was split between the so-called "big two" of Ciao and Dooyoo, and even when other sites came along, or gained more exposure here in the UK (Bigrag, Epinions etc.) the big two managed to keep their member numbers fairly steady. Why did these other sites fail? I cannot say as I've never really dipped my toes outside Dooyoo or Ciao until a few months ago.
» In the ... ...on ChuckleWeb board, and from another opinionator. The whisperings were that URI was a new opinion site which quite different to what we were used to at Ciao or Dooyoo, and have the potential to go far.
After a while, a URI forum was added to the CWeb board and it was only really then that I began to pay closer attention to the site. I'd had a brief browse through it on a couple of occasions, but it didn't grab me and pull me in. I ended up posting ...

Advantages: New, fast growing site, extremely responsive to suggestions, voucher and prize draw incentives Disadvantages: No too many users....but growing daily
I originally wrote this opinion in January 2003, when this site was up and coming, but I'm afraid it has since got up and gone! James did his best, but it was not meant to be. I have copied the current message on the site below for information (which does indicate that it may be back) but I'm not holding my breath. What a waste! Below that is my original opinion.
It is with much regret that we have ... ...site was first introduced in 2002. Since that time, the web site has received awards and many people have registered and contributed towards the site. In addition, many new features have been added and the web site has gone from strength to strength. However, u-rate-it requires far more support than we are able to provide at this time and we would much rather temporarily close the site than fail to meet the expectations of its members. We would like ...

Advantages: Too many to mention Disadvantages: You aren't going to be a millionaire by this time next year
....is it possible?
***Update found at bottom of op***
Having just read the weekly newsletter sent to me from u-rate-it I thought now was a good time to review the site over here. I initially heard about u-rate-it from a review on dooyoo. I then started to read quite a few reviews about it over on ciao. Eventually I decided I might as well give it a go myself. There was nothing to lose after all. If it really was as good as everyone kept saying ... ...I’m always up for a change of scenery, with the declining reads on dooyoo and the distinct lack of paying categories on ciao I set my heart on the grass being greener on the other side. Usually my heart gets broken (lets have an awww!). This time though I’m pleased to announce it has lived up to all expectations.
Since the dooyoo redesign there have been quite a few (ok, so a lot!) of teething problems. Most of which have now been ironed ...

Advantages: Customer service is second to none, it's a new site so give a chance to have a hand in actually building a success, listens to members and implements ideas quickly, Ability to add own items, Excellent on-site community, encourages innovation. Disadvantages: Very new site with obvious teething problems, need to increase unique content, speed of changes can be disorientating, peple expect it to fail
Shock Horror! Look at me posting an op when I said I wouldn’t again. Well Ciao have finally paid out my cash and I can go properly now. Now don’t worry, I have had a good think and have decided not to close the account after all (although I still stand by my mini rant) and may decide to make a dramatic (don’t laugh) comeback after I have finished my exams, which are taking up so much of my time right now. But before I go I want to post this last ... ...spent, given the amount I’ve won from there over the past month I figured I owed it that much. Now this is a long one, there’s a lot to say. So bear with me.
I expect you will have heard of this place already. The people in the opinionating world don’t often stay out of the loop for too long when it comes to developments in the field of their hobby of choice. But many I imagine will have taken a cursory look and thought ‘Nah!’ or perhaps you don’t ...

Advantages: A consumer site which is keen to listen to its' members which is a definite breath of fresh air, the site is likely to grow into a very successful site and if you join now you can help it get there Disadvantages: Not all catergories are paying at the moment
...**SO WHAT IS U-RATE-IT.COM**
U-Rate-It.com is a consumer website that was initially established about a year ago, under the name Word of Mouth Online. It was initially created as a local website, whose aim was to get people to leave their opinions about local services, ie a great local electrician who will bend over backwards to help you in your hour of need or a dodgy plumber who left you with more mess than you had before you called him. Unfortunately ... ...lot of interest and decided to re-market themselves and add new categories for members to write opinions about, with help from Amazon and DVDOptions they managed to gain more users and towards the end of 2002 the site suddenly took off in a big way - this is probably largely due to members of Ciao and Dooyoo who had discovered the site and been so impressed by what they saw that they decided to share their opinions about the site with other members. ...
