WOW! I recently wrote about SMS free texting using Lycos but was tempted to look at this site through another site (Dooyoo!) member's comment (thanks to Helen 79 on Dooyoo!).

It seems it's just as well as since singing the praises of the Lycos SMS service I have had nothing but problems with slow service and constant error messages when trying to send texts.

So I decided to check out U Boot and I can confirm it's great! All free, it provides free anonymous text messaging and email services. If on the right network people can even reply to your SMS messages to your computer Uboot inbox but I haven't had any luck with that yet.

Quite how they offer all their services free I don't know as this site appears devoted to messaging and there is very little advertising evident apart from advertising their own services?! Hmmm, will it last?

Apart from questions of possible longevity, for now the site has a lot to offer. Signing up is free, you choose a nickname and password as is standard, provide a few personal details and then you're off! You're automatically allocated an SMS number and email address and can start using the service straight away. Confirmation details are sent to the email address of your choice as well as your UBoot email.

On this site you have your own "U BOX" which provides an inbox, outbox, address book, folder options and email which is far more than most SMS sites I've visited offer!

Messaging is easy and instant, especially if you have already put the intended recipient in your own address book, you merely have to click on the phone symbol to send them a message. Messages can be up to 160 characters long whereas most sites offer only around 100 and there does not appear to be any limit of the number you can send per day as with other sites.

My boyfriend and I had great fun earlier today using this service as I do not text many people we put a lot of his friends into my address book and sent them messages and everything was quick, easy and instant with replies coming back via our phones in a short time!

The site also offers chat, forums and buddy lists among other UBoot members and you need only be known by your nickname and can give access to as much info as you choose i.e. you can make your email address visible if you wish.

This is definitely the best service of it's kind I have tried with a simple, uncluttered website which is easy to access and use - I recommend it, bye bye Lycos!
