I am not generally motivated to express an opinion online. Not to say I have better things to do, just that I'm normally too busy running my business and dealing with hectic family life. However, there is the odd occasion when I think it's important to share my experiences to save others the pain - UK2.net is one of this select band. I'm not sure how cheap they are compared with the competition, other than they always appear to be charging for services that used to be, or elsewhere are inclusive; it's not actually that important to me to save a tenner or so every blue moon. It is however, very important to me that I get a professional, reliable service, depending as I do, on this for my livelihood. Unfortunately, I am stuck with them for at least a while longer as back in the mists of time, the original developer used some of their proprietary scripts for our web sites. Never has there been a greater motivation to redevelop, update and move to a proper hosting company, even considering the expense that will be incurred. So to specifics (I'll attempt to be brief): they decide to do midweek maintenance without any warning or information that will totally take you out for days! We've lost a week when they changed scripts on us; we've just lost another week and a half when they decided to migrate email servers (to date, we still don't have any service); they take 2 or 3 days to respond to 'critical' support tickets; they have an 09 number for support to tell them that something has gone wrong with THEIR service; in the last escapade, they don't even answer the 09 number!!!!!!; even their own support staff have admitted they are woefully understaffed. Oh I could go on and on... ...but time is money and I've not had site or email for a week and a half...
Just to provide a comparison - we have a site hosted with an American company, bluehost. When we have a problem on Sunday, we logged on to online chat. Within 1 minute max, we had a support analyst helping sort our problem - THIS IS 2AM SUNDAY MORNING THEIR TIME! I rest my case.
DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR UK2.NET - THIS COMPANY DESERVES SHOOTING!
Kind regards and goodnight
