I recently discovered the site UKInvest (www.ukinvest.com) via a search engine, whilst trying to find some information about a Building Society with which I hold a savings account.

After finding an up-to-date article (a press release from that same day) that included all the pertinent information on the potential payouts that customers of this particular Building Society might expect to receive, I decided to delve a little deeper.

To my surprise I found that the site was overflowing with plentiful and pertinent business information. I am the first to admit that this type of site would not appeal to everyone. However, for someone like myself who likes to keep abreast of matters in the financial markets, and in particular a small range of companies in which I have an interest, UKinvest has proved to be a godsend.

I can now see at a glance all city announcements that have taken place today, or on any other named date for that matter. I am also able to have information such as share prices at my fingertips whenever I need it. I am also able to keep up to date with specific company news, including announcements of results and press releases to the city. This information in particular is not always easy to find on the internet as many business related sites now charge a fee for the privilege of viewing this type of company specific data.

A more pleasing side of this site is the additional insight that it has given me into the company where I work. If I were to say that our internal communications left a little to be desired, I would be making a very serious understatement of the facts. I searched the site for information about my employer, which is a listed comany on the London Stock exchange, and found numerous articles, mainly press releases that dated back over 18 months. In particular I found a press release dated from about a week previous, that announced a joint venture with another company. No-one in the office knew anything about this announcement until I passed on the printout of the press release from the UKinvest site. Needless to say, a few days later the same information was passed around in memo form, but by then it was already second hand news.

I will certainly be keeping UKinvest in my bookmarks for the forseeable future, and I advise anyone who has an interest in business matters to do the same.
