It WAS good, it is no longer

Advantages Accurate search results, UK content, mail & SMS, other portal features.
Disadvantages Perhaps not the neatest layout ever, quite a bit of advertising.
* STOP PRESS*
Sadly, UKMax has gone the way of Excite UK (or rather vice-versa) and is no longer available. Incidentally, mail.com who provided the UKMax e-mail service have been most unhelpful in addressing my problem with accessing the UKMax e-mail site (to save mails before I stop using the account).--------------------------------
I am somewhat confuzzled (my favourite hybrid word) as to why this search engine hasn't received more publicity.I can't remember how I came across it, but I signed up for an e-mail account a while ago (free "@ukmax.com" account which I mainly use for forwarding to my work address) and it occurred to me to try out the search facility.
I was surprised to find (having never found anything superior to Yahoo!/Google) that this is actually a cracking search engine - particularly for UK-focused searches. There are countless URLs I have been able to find with UKMax where other engines have failed.The interface/layout/clarity etc. aren't bad either.
The site, www.ukmax.com, is actually much more than a search facility, it's a full-blown portal with all the usual channels (shopping, news etc) and even free SMS and voicemail services. (It's part of Hollinger Telegraph New Media, owner of the Daily Telegraph).That's it really - give it a go, you won't be sorry!
