I enjoy parody and satire. I also find politics very interesting. Therefore, it is no surprise that this wonderful website www.untitleddocument.co.uk is one I recommend. I enjoy parody and satire. I also find politics very interesting. Therefore, it is no surprise that this wonderful website www.untitleddocument.co.uk is one I recommend. If you’re bored of the usual news and fancy a laugh, but one with a large dose of intelligence behind it, this website could be just what your tickle-o-meter has been searching for.
It is an online newspaper, with the latest issue being Edition 35, dated 12th June. You can read through past issues by clicking on the links on the top left of the page. You can also subscribe by entering your email address, which will mean you get emailed when they write a new edition. The new issues are due out every other Tuesday.
The homepage is set out just like a newspaper, with the title Untitled Document – ‘Distorting nothing, and laughing false gods off their earthly pedestals’! There is a warning the website might contain strong language and is unsuitable for children. The use of the ‘*’ replaces letters in the worst swear words though and I don’t think I’d have any problems with older children reading this. This is not an offensive site as so many websites are. There is nothing sick about it, it’s just very funny and very clever.
On the right hand side are a few choice ‘quotes’ such as “You can take this job and shove it up your a**e!” from William Hague. Underneath there is a long list of links to similar websites. At the bottom of the page, there is a disclaimer which finishes with the statement – “If you require further assistance with the difference between reality and fiction, we recommend you visit a psychoanalyst.”
The homepage has links to the main stories on it, then a section of News In Brief. This covers four stories, the best one in the current edition being ‘Portillo hopes to gain support of not-gay-any-more Tories’ which had me chuckling out loud. What’s that saying? Oh yeah…Any enemy of Portillo is a friend of mine. Hee hee.
Clicking the links to the main story, you are taken to a full-page story on how McDonald’s have “finalised their purchase of the entire world reserve of happiness”. (You’ve obviously not seen the faces I pull when that horrific sneering clown comes on the TV screen then!) Anyway, I definitely suggest you read this, it’s very well written and good fun.
There is also a Factsheet on Forming Parliament to peruse. This details what Tony Blair went through with the Queen (No, don’t go there!) when he went to the Palace to make his second term of leadership formal. This was mildly amusing, but nowhere near as good as the Portillo or McDonald’s stories.
Then, the On This Day feature looks back at June 12th of previous years. Definitely worth a look, a few titters to be had here too. The link takes you to a separate page again for this.
The Back Issues are well worth a read through too. For example, the June 5th edition focuses on the General Election, with wonderful quotes from the Party leaders (well, two leaders, one ex) and a story on ‘Small Children Declare Support For Hague’ after the revelation that Tony Blair does not know what a ‘muggle’ is. (Harry Potter reference, ask your kids!)
Other highlights I spotted include : May 29th – ‘New Ambulance Insignia May Cut Ice-Cream Requests By 50%’ March 20th – ‘Hear’say Miming All Their Interviews’ January 9th – ‘Famous Person Goes To Place, Does Thing’
Overall, it will only take you a few minutes to read and will provide much more enjoyment than your average newspaper. It may not give you the real news, but it’ll give you more laughs than anything Moira Stuart says.
Advantages: The stories are quite funny and the website is nicely designed Disadvantages: Severly lacking in content, only takes 5 minutes to read the whole site
Untitled document, hmm, what a strange name for a web page, but never mind, I suppose I’ve seen worse, anyway, on looking for a new humour site to write about, I came across this site, so I gave it the once over, its pretty funny, but sadly lacks in content, anyway here’s my rundown of the site.
What is Untitled Document?
Before you say it, NO it’s not a document you have saved on your hard-drive and forgot to name it. “Untitleddocument.co.uk” ... ...you can guess, with it being in the alternative humour section, it is a site of made-up stories, to which are pretty funny, when you first load this web page, you are presented with what looks like the front of a newspaper and apparently it is updated every other week. You can also look at the archives of past editions and actually sign-up to get issues sent to you by email.
What are the stories about?
Well, on my visit to “Untitleddocument.co.uk”, ...

Advantages: Irreverant, cinical British humour Disadvantages: poor circulation
untitleddocument.co.uk neatly fills the void left by the sadly ended Spitting Image. Ok, so it's not a TV program, but a website in the style of a newspaper. It compares very favourably with the US site 'The Onion', but it totally British in its outlook.
Recent highlights have included the Winnie the Pooh parody of the US elections and alternative views of the headlines of the week.
Usually published weekly, when the publication email arrives you ...

Compliments are quite nice and can be a bit of fun
Criticisms can be cruel and hurtful: if someone has a problem this is not the right way to tell them and if they don't then it's not nice to send them (*)
