Upmystreet.com is an unbelievably useful site. I recently checked it out and decided to focus on the small Kentish town of Herne Bay -where my late Mother lived- to see what sort and quality of information I would obtain. The results were simply incredible.

When you enter the site you just type in a postal code or the name of the town that you wish to find information about. You can then select information about your local council, details of places to visit, cinemas,restaurants,pubs, property prices,where to buy a used car, pc and so much more.

I first checked out average property prices in Herne Bay .The results for a detached property in the town was 131,434 pounds and for a semi-detached house 91,173 pounds. As far as I know they were very accurate estimates.They even provide natiobal average house prices for you to compare against the local prices .

I then decided to look at the Whats On guide and got information on local cinemas,local theatres, local pubs and local restaurants,down to a fantastic level of detail. For instance, within 100 yards of the town centre were the Yantze Chinese Restaurant, the Happy Valley Chinese Eatery, Mortimers ,Riggins and Khan's Indian restaurant.Then they will give details of eateries within 200, 300 and 400 yards and so on!

You can obtain information on the nearest chemist,the closest post office,and even find out where the bingo halls are.

The site is a breeze to access,easy to navigate and they even offer an E-mail service. It is truly a superb source of localised information- and,if you so want, you can get at 3 am in the morning or any othe unearthly hour of the day and night.What more could you ask for ! It is, in my view, incredibly useful for local residents,travellers,people relocating and for people who will visit a place they dont know well on,say, business for a week or so. No more ploughing through boring old Yellow Pages for me ,when there is a site like this to surf. It gets top marks from me for it's right up my street !
