Of all the sites on the Internet, I reckon “UpMyStreet.co.uk” has got to go down as one of the most useful, I mean come on! What site gives you as much useful information as here, it’s absolutely superb.

What is “UpMyStreet.co.uk”?

Well, basically, it’s a web site that gives you that useful information needed regarding your hometown or one that you are visiting. Are you feeling hungry, and want to know where you nearest Pizza Parlour is? Do you want to buy a certain make of Car, but don’t know where to look? Do you want to know the local Crime-rates? And what is being done about them? Well, look no further my friends, as this site has the lot.

When you first visit this page, it will look very plain and ordinary, just a portal thingy, which requires you to input you Postal Code, once this is done, you’ll be transferred to the main page, the page that tells you everything and anything about your local area. The information available is unbelievably immense.

Firstly, you’ll notice a little map showing your road, and the surrounding area, them you’ll notice literally hundreds of various links to them all-important places that help your local area tick.

LOCAL INFORMATION:

This link will show you things like:

Property Prices: A quick rundown of the price of properties in your area, broken down into various house categories, i.e. Detached, Semi-Detached, Flats, etc.

Council Performances: You want to know how your Council Tax compares to the rest of the country? Or you want to know how much waste per household is collected? The answers are here.

Other very useful links here include, Contact your Council, Education, Policing, Member of Parliament, etc.

CLASSIFIEDS:

Properties: You want to buy a house in your area, look no further; this will give you a list and description of all houses/flats for sale, and actually gives them to you in an order of how near they are to you. Did you know that the nearest house for sale from me is actually 245 yards away?

Used Cars: Once again, a comprehensive list of cars available, also in an order of closest to you first. Another useless fact for you, did you know the closest Porsche for sale is 16 bloody miles away from me? Damn, just when I was going to buy one out of my Premium Fund monies.

FIND MY NEAREST:

Without doubt the most useful part of the site, this is a vast collection of your nearest, well basically anything, be it a Chip Shop you’re after or even a Drugs Rehab Centre, you’ll find it here, once again, these are shown in a “Nearest first” format, It also gives you all the vital information like address and phone number.

ACORN PROFILE (A Classification of Residential Neighbours):

This is basically a Profile of your local area, and gives you information like, Unemployment, Car Ownership, Health statistics and various other facts and figures. Seeing as though I actually live in the supposed “Poorest Council in Britain” which is Knowsley, as you can imagine, these readings look pretty grim for my area, with high unemployment, high crime-figures and bad health figures, but never mind, I’ll survive.

SUMMARY:

As you can imagine, I fully recommend this web page, as it’s thoroughly packed with local information and is very easy to navigate. I must add though, with things like the Classified Adverts, etc, I guess these are just the ones that have been submitted through the web sites sponsors, which are Asserta Homes, Exchange and Mart, Job Channel and Ad Trader, plus there are bound to be several Local Business’s and Shop’s that are not actually submitted, but all the same, I found the site thoroughly useful and on my little search I never noticed a single Local Pub, Club, Restaurant, etc that was not submitted.

The site itself is not what you’d call “Graphically fantastic” and there is obviously the odd advert here and there, but what the hell, who needs decent Graphics when there is this amount of Local information available.
