No one is going to turn down the chance of a free collection of MP3s are they? Not if they are sound of mind or like the tunes on the little silver disc.
So when it comes to getting those lovely little tunes from your home PC (or work for that matter) into a format that you can play on your hi-fi, you need a good CD.
I have experimented for about 18 months with different brands and have now come up with a winner.
The winning product?
Memorex CD-R80.
Why?
Well, I have tried them all, (Sony, Kodak, Verbatim,PC World Own Brand) and this one beats them all hands down.
Firstly, Their size. The ones I use , The CD-R80 are 80 minutes of pure uncompressed Music. Thats nearly 13 hours of MP3s!!! Normally, the 74 minute CDs are long enough for your needs but you will find more and more record companies, particularly the Dance Album Labels, are making them just over 74 minutes to stop you copying them. I dont copy CDs from one to the other anyway so this did not affect me but I imagine it can get frustrating.
With the 80 minute ones, you would have no problem. They would cope with these sort of CD's.
Secondly, they are very reliable. There is nothing wrong with the Own brand "cheapies" if you dont intend on keeping it forever. For some reason, the cheaper CD's stop working in the Home Hi FI after a couple of months. Its almost like they have "worn out". I think this is because they dont accept the recorded material very well. Nothing worse than putting a CD on the HI FI that used to work yesterday and not today.
In fact, the cheaper CD's are almost see through! Look at them against the light and you can see through them. Not healthy methinks.
They also have a higher tendency to go wrong during recording.
The Memorex CD's arent like this. They are solid in recording. My CD Writer writes all the way up to the dizzy heights of 8 speed and have only lost 2 Memorex CDs ever while recording in well over 100. This compares to a loss rate of nearly 50% on the PC world Discs.
The Sony ones and even the Kodak ones were good but not as good as this. The rason they lost out were to the Third reason I choose Memorex.
The Price.
The price of a spindle of 50 Blank Memorex Disc of 80 minutes each is £19.99 Thats the same as the own brand PC World discs and they are only 74 minutes blanks.
They dont come with boxes but what do you want for your money.
If you dont know where to get them from , I can point you towards a good distributor.
The Kodak,Sony and Verbatim may come in Boxes but they also cost somewhere between £8 and £15 for 10 and this is for 74 minute CDs.
Choose Memorex if you like quality and dont mind not having boxes.

I've been using Tevion ones which are also 80 minutes. I haven't been listening to them a lot, so I don't know how good they will be long-term. They're really cheap at £3.99 for 10! Great op.
