Advantages: Its a free web-based email account - but there are plenty of others out there! Disadvantages: Problems associated with the site and emails.

I’ve decided it’s not worth the hassle.

But, they then decided that they needed to change the site, the email system – everything! They said that there wouldn’t be much disruption! (They lied!) What happened was that they put a link in so you could get back to the old site and all your old emails, this link was there for a limited time. While this link was still available you were then supposed to forward your old emails to yourself – i.e. forward them to the same address. I tried this, and the emails were forwarded, but remained in the old inbox! I kept trying, but I could not get my emails out of my old inbox. I started to panic a bit with the deadline for the old inboxes to be destroyed looming. So I emailed them for help and advice on the matter - no reply. Eventually there was a message put on the home page saying that they knew there was a problem and they were trying to deal with it. They had managed to negotiate and extension of the deadline (a few days!) and they would let everyone know when the problem was fixed.
I kept checking the homepage to see what was happening, but the message was still the same. Then, the next time I looked it had gone, as had the link to the old mailboxes. My emails were lost forever – so much for letting everyone what the situation was! ARGH!
The discount card turned out not to be so great after all! You can get a discount at virgin megastores, but it’s only the same discount you can get with an NUS card. There have been 2 or 3 other companies offering 10% off, but the offers were very limited and only available for a very short time.
I’ve decided it’s not worth the hassle.

Virginstudent.com has to be on top of the list when it comes to Students visiting websites. In my opinion,apart from anything else, the free sms service is the best around and whenever I use the net I send free text messages to keep in contact with my friends.I'm a skingey student and free messages save me masses of money and unlike the NUS website there is no limit to the amount of texts you can send. Apart from free sms the site also includes free ... ...extremely impressed! There is also a local guide where you can find out different savings that you can get from nearby stores and pubs. I leave uni in the summer and I will definately miss virginstudent.com as it has become a part of my student life! ...

This is one of the many free email accounts available on the net. But this has a difference; it is designed (very well) for us students. It has all we have ever wanted. Every body knows about the email, it is the same as the other million free accounts available, but this site also allot more. Firstly it has free text messaging. This service is a in a class of it’s own. It allows you to take no’s from your address book on the account, ... ...all the disclaimers when sending a message. This service also allows you to store messages and send them to other people with out having to rewrite it out.
It has a calendar service, and a to do service. These are linked as when you log into your account you are greeted by a message box saying good morning etc, and it also tells you if you have new mail, and what you have to do that day. Great! No excuse for missing deadlines.
