Walkers have done it again.
"Done what?" I hear you cry.
Walkers have managed to turn a flavour not many would associate with a packet of crisps and put it into a packet of crisps.
They tried before with Branston Pickle flavour and Heinz Tomato Ketchup that I did not agree with, or to put it more delicately, my stomach didn't, and Marmite flavour. Then came the Curries and the Mediterranean flavours that I did not try.
Now, something truly British. ... ...I do enjoy Mustard.
But Walkers have excelled themselves with this flavour. A distinct aroma of baked ham envelops the nostrils. A slight tingle, I admit, from the mustard when the crisp hits the tongue. Then, pure pleasure!
You can distinctly pick out both flavours and the mustard does not over power the ham, merely complements it. A real joy to snack on.
This IS the must try flavour of the three. Neutrals and sceptics will be suprised by the ...

I used to like Walkers crisps as a child, but I don't often buy them these days. However, when Littleswamp1 recently wrote a review on the new range of Walkers 'Great British Dinners' variety, I thought I'd give them a try. There are three new flavours available - 'Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding', 'Baked Ham and Mustard' and 'Lamb and Mint Sauce'. I wasn't keen on the last two, so opted for the 'Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding' flavour. Having ... ...a brown bag, with the Walkers logo emblazoned across the front and the usual nutritional values on the back. The only real difference I could see is that there is a blue banner on the front, declaring that this is part of the 'Great British Dinners' range.
When I ripped open the packet, I was not immediately keen on the smell. It is quite strong and a bit like Bovril - which I hate! However, once I actually tasted the crisps, I was very pleasantly ...

Advantages: Tasty!!!! Disadvantages: Must avoid if dieting
Walkers have a tasty new addition to the 'crisp' family - crisps with Sunday Roast Dinner flavours. I've tried a couple of these varieties and certainly have my preferences regarding the flavours available.
Available are Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding, Baked Ham and Mustard and my favourite Lamb and Mint sauce.
My first experience was of the Roast Beef flavour. I personally couldn't taste the Yorkshire Pudding part but the Beef was certainly ... ...for extra freshness, with the Walkers logo situated on the front of the packet, along with a knife, fork and dinner plate and the words "Great British Dinners".
Are far as taste goes, I could taste both the lamb and the mint sauce, as the product name implies. Walkers have got a good blend of the two flavours, so one doesn't overpower the other. One of the down sides with Lamb is it tends to be greasy, as this was also present in the taste and texture ...

Advantages: bursting with flavour Disadvantages: not enough in a bag!
I'm not a big Walkers fan (except Walkers MAX), i prefer Wheat Crunchies or Monster munch, but i love these new flavours!
I've not tried any of the other 2 flavours, Lamb & Mint Sauce or Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding, but i've had a fair few bags of Baked Ham and Mustard!
It started one day at work when i forgot my purse. I only managed to scrape together 45p for dinner and i was starving. Here in sunny Doncaster we have a wonderful litte treasure ... ...boxes and boxes full of WALKERS GREAT BRITISH DINNERS, but the only flavour they had was BAKED HAM AND MUSTARD. I didn't fancy it much but the only other choice was Flaming Hot Wotsits (which i hate!) so, reluctantly, i grabbed a packet for my dinner... they were only 10p in date!! I got back to the office and after trying to decide what they would taste like, i just went for it ... they taste just like smokey bacon flavour walkers, but they have ...

Advantages: Different flavours to try Disadvantages: Trying to cash in on Walkers popularity?
...I never thought that Walkers would face competition in the GreatBritishDinner Stakes. How wrong could I be.
Incidentally, it does say on the packet that these crisps are suitable for vegetarians! Seems weird considering the flavours are based around meat! Just shows what can be created artificially through E numbers and the like!
Finding this product

As the name suggests, it is only available at Tesco this one! It is located on the shelves with all the other crisp multipacks, just look for a pinkish pack with a splash of orange, purple and brown on it. Honest! Price is just 54p for a pack of 6, (9p per packet!), depending on your location.

Advantages: Out every Christmas Disadvantages: Re-vamped Chicken, and no Paxo.
..., very similar. And like the GreatBritishDinner range, with the Beef and Pud flavour, no hint of the secondary flavour. (Stuffing in this case)
Value
--------
You may be unfortunate enough to visit one of the large supers and pay normal Walkers rate of around 35p for this flavour. Then again, you may be slightly more fortunate to live near a discount retailer such as B&M or Home Bargains and only fork out a couple of shillings (10p in new money!)
Crisp or Soft?
-------------------
To conclude, Walkers normal standards regarding quality are more than matched.
Unfortunately, it is another attempt at cashing in with a revamp of a popular flavour.
My tastebuds may be neglected, and may not pick up certain flavours, but I LOVE Paxo by the boxload and can sniff out stuffing at twenty paces. A distinct lack of stuffing...

We seem to have a liking for Jamie Oliver in our house because this is another cookbook from his series that we have and one that we use pretty much all the time. The book is called Jamie's Dinners and it is billed as the essential family cookbook. It... more
