I took out a policy with WD in February 06. Their sales people are very pleasant and efficient. I took out the Gold policy and was told this would give me "complete piece of mind". I was also told that all electrical items except the stereo system were covered.
I was promised policy docs and window stickers etc but these did not come through. I also had problems with the correct information on the policy form.
After a couple of months my external temp sensor failed. I called the claims line and you've guessed it "Im sorry that's not covered". I stated that this was part of the electrical system but the engineer then went into the definitions of relays / switches etc. I wrote in to complain but got the expected negative response and was told to consult the policy document which I had at that point never received.
At this time other things came to light.
There is a clause that states if you claim within the first three months the fault could be put down to wear and tear. I was not told about this at point of sale. I would suggest that almost any failure on a car with a number of miles on the clock could be attributed to W&T. Apparently for the first three months you could be at the whim of
A third party inspector. "Complete piece of mind"!!!!!!!!!
Be aware that "any item not specifically mentioned" on the cover card is not covered. Get the info first and review before you buy.
WDs advertisement states no hidden costs. (They did point out the £25 00 excess and the £50 transfer fee). There is an improvement policy which means that over 60 000 miles the percentage of part reduces to 90%. 70 000, 80% etc.
Although I deem this to be fair, again it is something which was not identified to me at point of sale.
You have to use one WDs network garages unless you pay extra for main dealer coverage. I believe that these garages can be quite busy.
I just hope nothing goes wrong with my vehicle as I believe WDs engineers have a very deep "excuse bag". I will not use them again. I will pay the extra and go for main dealer extended warranty. My opinion is that main dealers want to sell you cars, WD want to make money. Check out the 10 page policy document. Two of the pages are about the COMPLAINTS procedures!!!!!!!!!!.
