I have always been dubious about any form of insurance as the aim of any insurer is to take a premium and find an excuse not to pay a claim.
WARRANTY DIRECT are a perfect example as per my experience.
In May 07 I took out their Gold Policy providing their so called top class cover for my Mercedes to be repaired by a franchised dealer, cost was £43 monthly.
This I thought would provide cover for just about every problem I might encounter. Frankly I did not think with a Merc there would be too many problems but I felt reassured, and I expected Warranty Direct would do well out of me. But I did not think for one moment it would be to my detriment. Perhaps it is just as well I learned a lesson early on though.
A week ago the car had a fuel leak with work required described by the Merc repair shop as:
"replaced leaking injector pipes and replaced No 1 injector seal and V belt" ( as belt was contaminated with diesel)
Guess what, ...........my claim was turned down.
This caused me to look at the items covered by the waranty and I have concluded that the policy very carefull y worded indeed so as to provide Warranty Direct with plenty of opportunities to deny any claim should they wish.
I have immediately cancelled my policy.
Three other family members are also cancelling their policies, one bad family experience is enough for us. Thatresults in an £1800 p.a, loss of income for Warranty Direct.
My advice is DO NOT TAKE OUT A POLICY WITH WARRANTY DIRECT
Either get a proper manufcaturers extended policy or if you have the will power
put money aside each month to pay for repairs is my advice,a t least you will earn interest on it.
