I am convinced that the links have not been updated since 1997 there are so many dead ends. The range of offered links is vast, but those which work are few and far between.
There is no ... ...friendly. There is no option for a UK-only search, and all links etc are very much Americanised.
The advantage of this site is the fast loading time, but it is of no consequence when the site itself isn't up to much.
My advice is to use a different search engine or tool - try Web Ferret. ... more

There is no option for asking a question and is not very beginner friendly. There is no option for a UK-only search, and all links etc are very much Americanised.

Webcrawler feels like an ancient relic from when the internet is young, coming as it does from the old school of search engines. Its site is actually very well laid out and offers you a comprehensive list of search options/links etc. which facilitate your search for information and help you find exactly what you are looking for. The only real problem is that this is exactly what webcrawler does NOT do!
It is surely the case that a search engine ... ...then bring back some relevant results...webcrawler doesn't seem to realise this just yet. What it does do is limp off very slowly and then return even more slowly with a heap of trash for you to sift through and eventually (maybe) find something relevant to your search.
OK, so if you decide to look for something simple like football or dogs then the chances are it can handle this, but the average web user is probably more intereste in finding other ...

Advantages: Good presentation. Disadvantages: Index polluted with irrelevant material, and a lot of dead links.
Webcrawler is one of the oldest search engines on the web, and used to be one of the best.
It's method of indexing on the actual text, rather then on the meta-tags which can be manipulated to give a good search position, is I believe the most appropriate form of indexing.
Perhaps they could do with cleaning up the index and re-building it, then Webcrawler could be the great search engine it once was.
I don't believe it is as slow as some people ...
