Going on your summer hols? Worried that you wont be able to speak the lingo? Need some help with that tricky foreign language? Well sorry, this site won't help a bit. But if you want a laugh and an amusing look at some regional quirks in UK speech, head over to whoohoo.co.uk.

The site is very basic to look at, really simple to use, but loads of fun too. All you have do is choose the type of dialect you want to try from a list on the left hand side of the page, type your text into the box and then hit 'Translate!'.

To give you an idea of the way it'll turn out, I'll run through each dialect with the sample text they give, and an example of a standard translation ...

Just incase you didn't get the general feel for what I was saying, here's my original text...

Welcome to whoohoo.co.uk The home of the regional translator, the answer to all your prayers, the ultimate aid in understanding that localised dialect. Want to be a Cockney? Or you could try your hand at an Ali G impression. Whatever you want (well almost) it's here at whoohoo.co.uk

You can suggest new words or phrases to be included in the translator data bases too. It's a really easy process of stating the original word, the translated version of it, and which dialect it's for. (You're asked for your email addie too) They aim to have new submissions added within days, so if you think that there's something missing, go ahead and have your say, help to make the site better.

Currently in progress is an Irish translator, so if you think you may be able to help out with the dialect for that, you'll find a link on the right hand side of the homepage.

Other facilites at the site include a free text messaging service, although this is currently disabled due to the 'excessive volumes of messages that have been passing through the system'. The site is hoping to resume this service again though, with increased advertising revenue, so click the sponsor's banners and give them a helping hand.

You can also "Use the Translators on your site! It is easy to use the whoohoo.co.uk translators on your site! Simply copy and paste the code into your site, changing the relevant parts and the translators will serve your visitors completely free of charge! Your very own translation form on your site!". I haven't actually tried this feature out, but you'll find the link to the code on the homepage

As well as that, there's also a 'Joke of the Day' which you can access at the site and an option for having jokes and cartoons sent to your email address. Talking of email, you can translate and send them from the site too.

The layout and design of whoohoo.co.uk is basic and quite plain. But the site is easy to navigate, and it’s pretty quick too. To me, that’s more important than having a few fancy visuals, that take ages to load and aren’t of much relevance anyway. All in all, a fun site and well worth a look.

[Just one more thing, whoohoo.co.uk is currently displaying the dooyoo consumer approved 5 star award on it's homepage. So fellow Ciaoers, get on over to the site, check it out, and if you enjoy it review it! Lets get the Ciao award on there too]
