Advantages: they have a plenty amount of books to choose from Disadvantages: postage charges, pop-up ads!
I love shopping anywhere but on the Internet it’s even better. No need to get dressed or stress that the shops will shut in 30 minutes and you can even save vast amounts of cash. If you’re like me and don’t have much money to throw around (two credit cards to bring up) you’ll also need to spend your money wisely. WH Smith helps you get a good product for a relatively cheap price (but watch that p&p). The website is quite attractive ... ...have pop-up ads, which I abhor! It’s not too ‘busy’ to look at and navigation around the site is made by the orange tabs at the top of the page, these are Books, Music, DVD & Video, Games, Magazines, Stationery, Our Stores and Today on the Net. Once you select which department you want, the sub-menu arrives at the side of the page allowing you to delve deeper into the vaults of WHSmith. However, the pages they launch at you are ...

Advantages: The prices seem reasonably competitive and they do have a wide range of stock. Disadvantages: Late or even no delivery, poor online ordering information.
I've been using the internet for about 8 years now and I'm a heavy user (by which I don't mean I weigh a lot, but I am probably online for around 8 hours per day). However, I have only been a regular online shopper for the past 2 years or so. During this time, I have had no complaints at all and I have used a lot of different companies - amazon, bol, cd101, jungle, evesham, dabs and even Sainsburys and Tescos.
Perhaps these companies are to blame ... ...it's not actually Smith's fault that I expect next day delivery unless the item is not in stock when I expect a next-day email informing me of this. I expect to be able to log in to my account and instantly see the status of my orders (and the correct status I might add!). Perhaps I expect too much.
I won't bore you with the full details of my ordering nightmare, but I will sum up what happened to back up my grievances. I placed an order for 2 DVD's ...

Advantages: Cheaper than Amazon, very people friendly Disadvantages: Site needs improvement and expansion
I’ve had mostly very good experiences with WHSmith.co.uk, though I believe there are some areas on which they could improve. I’ve shopped with them for about six months now and would rate my happiness with their service, overall, at about 90%.
First off, I generally find that WHSmith is cheaper than Amazon. Their p&p costs slightly less and their products are normally (though not always) reduced further. When I am shopping for books/CDs/videos ... ...– one with Amazon and one with WHSmith, so I can compare prices. WHSmith usually always wins.
To buy from the WHSmith website, you need to register as you do with most Internet shops. This is a fairly easy process and it is always easy to check in at the website to monitor your orders by clicking on ‘My Account and Orders’ at the top of the screen, then logging in. Here you are always kept up-to-date on your ‘My Current Orders’ ...

Advantages: Fast Delivery, Excellent Customer Services Disadvantages: Delivery Charges! Poor Site Navigation
The first time I used WH Smith online was way back in December 1999. I ordered a Madness CD, amongst other things. WH Smith sent them out one at a time, which was great. The only problem was that I received a 'Michael Palin's Ernest Hemingway Adventure' video in place of my Madness CD. How did they manage this? Was somebody playing a joke? I'll never know. I did contact customer services who promptly sent out my Madness CD and allowed me to 'keep' ... ...this day.
I didn't use WH Smith online for another nine months or so; it takes a while to recover from a bad experience like that online. I've ordered a few rare books from them which amazon et al didn't have in stock, and all were dispatched pretty quickly - faster than amazon at least. Sadly, WHSmith suffer from the bane of all online retailers - postage charges! They're actually doing a temporary offer at the moment which offers free postage ...
