Napster is dead, file sharing isn't.
In fact, since the demise of Napster(well its dead as far as I am concerned) file sharing has just increased in volume rather than it being stamped out as the music industry had hoped. Now, you have access not only to MP3s, but software programs, images, documents and even complete movies if you have the time and patience to download 400MB+ files on a 56k modem! Of course if you have a high speed internet connection ... ...this kind of sharing have sprung up or increased in popularity since Napster effectively bit the dust. The likes of Mopheus, Kazaa, eDonkey, Gnotella, Bearshare, iMesh, Filetopia, Limewire...and so on, the list is seemingly endless and ever-growing, have all arisen hoping to take the crown of the best new fiesharing program out there. Of course, if you ask me, then Morpheus already has the crown and if the new update improves upon the filters etc. ...

Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: as with any downloading software, be prepared to wait!
...enlightenment comes from going to winmx.com and simply downloading the software. You can download it from locations all over the world, with there being several choices in busier countries. This means it's pretty quick to download. After that, you have to register a few details such as your chosen username, speed of your modem, and where you want the files to go from and to. They even give you a choice of text colours, to make it easy on the eye ... ...in, it should connect and download you a server. Unfortunately, it didn't manage for me. However, I didn't mind, as the programme gave me a website to go to, that had very simple instructions to input the servers yourself, which meant that this caused me no real problem.
Accessing the MP3's available is also really easy. There are a strip of buttons on the top of the screen, which take you to a page showing the options for each category, such as ...

Advantages: Fast, Peer to peer file sharing. Lots of users & files. Disadvantages: No complaints with the program, except minor details - look for Version 3 soon!
Which sums up WinMX entirely. I have been a user of Napster (as you can see by an older opinion of mine) for a long time, but when file transferring stopped, I needed something to fill that empty void. For a while I did without, yes, I did try Audiogalaxy, but it's web page/satellite interface I could never get on with. A friend then told me about WinMX.
I went to the website for WinMX (http://www.winmx.com) and downloaded it, having high hopes ... ...to install, I ran the application. It resembled Napster a bit, and certainly did the same job. I could now start getting my MP3s again, with a nice ping feature too (worthless mostly now people have firewalls, but never mind) to get the best download speed, true peer to peer style.
But what's this? I can choose to search for other files too? Yes - That's right, not only MP3s, but you can share just about any file on your computer, if that's what ...

Advantages: Free,Fast,Easy, Massive choice,Good music Disadvantages: Not really any
This piece of free software has been my best software addition for some time. Music fans with an internet connection will find this very useful. Its basically a music file sharing software similar to Napster, only much better in my opinion.
It has a search engine which quickly scans a hugely impressive database, well, of internet winmx users from across the world. This means that whatever song you are looking for, from whatever era, will almost ... ...only oncecome across a failed to attemp to find the song I'm after(then realised the song didn't exist!) .
I have found that there is a range of qualities of songs available so that you can choose whether you will get a good version and a long download, or go for "poor" quality (but still good!) and shorten the download time. With a 56k modem a song is unlikely to take more than 30 mins. AS well as songs there is the option to download music videos ...

Advantages: The best file-sharer since, well, ever Disadvantages: None that cause any major bother
This site offers the finest peer-to-peer file sharing program, free to download.
Before I begin, this is more a review of the program that is available to download from this site than of the site itself - the site exists solely to promote the program.
Peer-to-peer file sharing is a tricky business. I sampled Napster before it died, I dabbled with Gnutella, Bearshare and a couple of lesser efforts, but none seemed worth the bother.
I almost gave ... ...give WinMX a go, just in case.
And thank God I did. I kid you not, the program on offer at www.winmx.com is incredible. It is a simple file-sharing program - whack in your search query and the results start pouring into the simple main search window in front of you (provided it's not some obscure musical artifact that no-one has ever heard of - the point is someone, somewhere must have it on their PC).
The results can be sorted various ways - title, ...
