I stumbled across this site after reading the review in Web User this week. The concept for the site is excellent - allowing the public to discuss any business, event and news within their local area (kinda like a Ciao for local communities). There are other sites similar.. but I have never seen anything in this scale before.
Also, companies can add a graphic advert which can be updated at any time. If the examples on the homepage are ... ...new way for businesses to advertises services. .. and it's only £1 per year at the moment. The downside is that it is very empty. No users are posting anything yet, and therefore there is little content. I have posted a few messages in Worcestershire to help get things moving, and have already had some response. Also it is all very simplistic. I don't think that is a bad thing... makes it easy to navigate (look at Google!). The site consists of a ...

Advantages: Great idea, easy to use, no baggage Disadvantages: Shame about lack of content. Very lonely!
This is my first review on Ciao. It is hard to add more to the review posted by Ravanal, I agree with everything that he (she?) says. The idea for the site is great, but will only prove itself once people start using it. Also, companies may be worried about signing up incase they receive negative feedback. There is a positive feel to the whole site, and recommendations rather than critisism are stressed. All sounds a little idealistic to me, but ... ...for all web users.
I think more work could have been done on the look of the site. The homepage is very simplistic, but as Ravanal said - it didn't harm Google. WordMouth is no google yet though! ;-)
All the links seem to be in place and functional, and everything is clean and fluid... as you would expect with a phpbb installation. The number of categories is VAST! I have never seen such a massive forum structure.. and it looks like there is a ...
