wotif.com deals in offering cut-price standby accommodation in hotels across not only the UK, but also Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, although as another writer pointed out, I am not quite sure why that particular combination of countries.
The site requests that you select a country, and then if within the UK, a region that you want to stay in.
On pressing search, the site provides feedback ... ...I decided to try out wotif.com to see whether it was cheaper, it was actually £10 dearer. I then decided to check out another hotel that I use regularly in Coventry only to discover the site was a whopping £65 dearer, so no not that cheap. They also claimed no rooms available at another nice hotel in Coventry, yet the hotel chain web-site was offering rooms at only £45per night B&B.
Its getting boring now if I reiterate about the ????????!!!'s in the title -Come on Ciao - jump on the bandwagon, please.
WOTIF.COM As a regular traveller across the UK, employed in Education, price is paramount when finding overnight accommodation. I was browsing through Ciao looking for an opinion on a particular hotel in Manchester when I stumbled across an opinion on this site.
wotif.com deals in offering cut-price standby accommodation in hotels across not only the UK, but also Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, although as another writer pointed out, I am not quite sure why that particular combination of countries.
The site requests that you select a country, and then if within the UK, a region that you want to stay in. On pressing search, the site provides feedback on the hotels it holds within its database, displaying:
The name of the hotel
A link to the description of the hotel, facilities, location and direction
The rack rate of the hotel
The number of stars, and
an price for availability for a room within each hotel for the next 11 nights
Hotels are displayed irrespective of availability, and by mousing over the green square with the price in it for the night you require, will tell you whats included for the price. If the square is white, it does not actually say so, but I would guess that is for the room only. If there is no availability, a little dash will appear in the box for that night. The site claims: "All advertised rates include TAX. "Full Rate" is the hotel's published retail selling price for the most expensive room type on offer. The room rates displayed are the lowest for all room types"
So in effect it doesn't actually say that it is the cheapest around.
The site is updated in real-time so if availability runs out you will know immediately (See next paragraph)
IS IT CHEAP? I cannot vouch for all hotels, but as I was actually searching for the details of a hotel for which I had already ascertained a price, I decided to try out wotif.com to see whether it was cheaper, it was actually £10 dearer. I then decided to check out another hotel that I use regularly in Coventry only to discover the site was a whopping £65 dearer, so no not that cheap. They also claimed no rooms available at another nice hotel in Coventry, yet the hotel chain web-site was offering rooms at only £45per night B&B.
WHAT ELSE DOES THE SITE OFFER? It provides a range of todays special offers which primarily appear to be for weekend stays, where as I know from experience, there are some very good deals to be had if you have the time to shop around.
The site is a member of Which? Webtrader Code of Practice which I believe is supposed to give them some level of credibility.
They also have a weekly newsletter you can sign up to which will get you a weekly e-mail advising you of any offers.
SUMMARY A potentially useful site and well worth a visit, particularly if you are in a rush and don't have the time to go trawling through hundreds of web-sites or making loads of phonecalls to find somewhere to stay.
However, in my limited comparison I would not bank on them being the cheapest deal on the market at that particular time. I am assuming that they must be buying in room space at reduced rates in the hope that people will use them for speed rather than cost.
Advantages: Lots of choice and very cheap Disadvantages: You may have to stay 2 consecutive nights and the service is not offered in enough countries.
Wotif.com is a web site that offers cut price accommodation available over the next 11 days. The site is quick to load, easy on the eye and easy to use. You can search for a hotel in either the UK, Austrailia or New Zealand (I don't know why the service is only limited to these 3 countries). Once you have chosen your country froma drop-down menu, you can choose the area or city that you are interested in staying in. Once you have narrowed your search ... ...that post their accommodation onto the site within that area. EAch of the hotels will have a star rating (most are 4*) next to them and will show the availability over the next 11 nights, the price of the room, not per person, and what the price includes. If the price is in black text on a white background, it is the price of the room. If it is shaded in green, the price has add-ons. If you hover your mouse pointer over the price, it will tell you ...

Advantages: Luxury rooms at bargain basement prices! Disadvantages: Can only book a few days in advance, and only a small number of hotels in each location
I came across Wotif.com when I was looking to book a hotel for a weekend visiting friends in Birmingham. It's a website listing standby hotel accommodation, the rooms that hotels haven't managed to get reservations for in the next few days. We had originally planned to stay in a travel lodge for the weekend as that was located in the city centre, and wasn't going to break the bank. Then I found Wotif.com, a truly amazing website. I thought I'd just ... ...at the hotel, once by Wotif.com and once by the hotel itself. I phoned Wotif.com to complain and they were wonderful, they phoned the hotel up immediately for me to sort out the problem, and then called me straight back to tell me that the problem was resolved and the money would be credited back to my account immediately. They couldn't have done more to help and it was definitely the best customer service I have ever experienced.
I'll defintitely ...

Advantages: Great value, no ads, book within 4 clicks !!!! Disadvantages: Can only book two weeks in advance !
I have just started using Wotif.com after a friend recommended it. He had just been to stay at the St Andrews Golf course 5* Hotel and not only got a discount but it included a round of golf, breakfast and access to all the spa and fitness facilities !
That is where the real value can be found, when you float the mouse over a room price not only is the price discounted (I recently booked one in London with a 70% discount) but a small box appears ... ...etc but on some hotels it includes trips, rounds of golf, dinner, fitness centre's, spa's, car hire etc.
From the homepage to booking can take as little as 4 clicks Home - Region - Hotel Details - Book and all the information is really easy to find.
The London hotel that I stayed in was excellent. I needed one short notice as I had forgotten a business meeting that I was taking. I ended up staying in a 4 Star in Kensington at a very reasonable ...

I booked with wotif recently to take my parents on a weekend away in Rotorua (NZ). The website was easy to use and the booking quick.
However....
We had a problem with the hotel when I got there - apparently we were 'late' arriving and the hotel had resold the rooms. On contacting wotif I found that although the conditions set out for the hotel on their website were different from the hotel's actual conditions, they were not willing to do anything ... ...paid for the rooms by wotif and then they also resold the rooms. I am reasonable and understand that mistakes happen, so I offered to take a partial refund in the form of a credit note...
But the customer support people at wotif were very unhelpful and refused point blank to help, citing policies and conditions I was never even told about and which aren't advertised on their website as justification.... Be careful using wotif. ...
