I have always read to both of my children from the day they were born. My 14 year old daughter had a huge collection of books that we had accumulated over the years; her bedroom looked like a library. As she grew up, she sadly outgrew a lot of her books and the space was needed for books that were more suited to her age. So I donated a large amount of them to schools and charity shops. I never envisaged having a second child, and soon after, I found out I was pregnant; I had to start a brand new book collection for baby number two. I couldnít wait.
Reading is a great skill, and a pleasurable pastime, it allows us to escape from reality and get lost in another world. Opening a book is like going on a new adventure in your mind. Reading has many benefits, and reading to a child from newborn can have a significant impact on their speech development and understanding of language, as well as many other educational benefits. For us adults, it is a time to relax and it is a form of escapism. Reading is also good for stimulating the mind, and expanding our imaginations. It can also improve vocabulary, and introduce us to new ideas.
I get great delight from reading to my children, and I love buying new books, as there are so many fantastic new authors that I always want to discover. My little boy gets very excited when it is story time, which fills me with joy. I get very animated when I read childrenís books, as they are so much fun to read, I get pleasure from reading them as much as my son enjoys listening to them, as we get lost in the story and go on a new adventure each and every time. I find reading with my children to be great for bonding and creating memories. Itís so comforting to see a childís eyes widen as a story unfolds, it is almost as if they are there in the story, their heart races, they giggle with excitement, and they grow concerned for the characters in the story. Much the same for us adults, a book can carry us away to a different place.
This site will have you go Bananas
I prefer to buy my books on-line, as they are generally a lot cheaper than buying them from high street book stores, it can also be easier to find what you are looking for. I have shopped on-line with The Book People for some time now, and I have always been happy with their service, so when I first heard of their offshoot company Bananas.co.uk I was eager to take a peak. Bananas is a clearance outlet selling off old stock, as well as some new titles too that are also at bargain prices, you

This monkey is not for sale
would have to be ape not to have a look.
The site interface is Ďape-pealingí, being predominately made up with shades of yellow, with bunches of bananas decorating the page and a few cheeky monkeys hanging around. I personally love the look of the site, it is easy on the eye and it has a friendly feel about it. The site is easy to navigate; the interface has hotlinks to the most recent bargains that have been added to the site. The books are under different subcategories to make it easy to browse through the sections that are of more interest to you, which can be filtered to refine your results even further, so if you only want to look at books that are suitable for a certain age then you can refine the search to bring up books that are for a specified age range. As well as having hotlinks to the best savers and fast movers, which are always worth looking at, as they show you the books that have the highest discount and books that are quick to sell out, so donít monkey around, order them quick otherwise you will feel like a banana. The titles are limited so they may not be there for long, so it is always best to order what you want when they have it, otherwise you will miss out on a bargain or two. There is also a search function, so you can search by author or you can look for a title in hope that they may have it. The homepage is not cluttered at all, and it is well laid out, making it user friendly. Each of the books has a great description which gives you a good clear idea about the book, as well as this it also gives you specific information in regards to the format, size and age recommendation, all set out easily to see.
Ripe for the Picking
They offer sets of books, which work out to be great value for money. They would be ideal to split up and use for birthday presents if you have a lot of children to buy for, which is always the case when they start school. I have ordered several sets of books which I have been pleased with, and I canít get over how cheap they are. Single books are generally around £2-£3 and some are as low as 50p, with massive savings of up to ninety percent off the recommended retail price Ė top banana!
The main book categories are Fiction, Non-fiction, Children's, and even a section for price reductions! There may be less than what you can find from a main book site, however, the choice is still vast, you can expect to find books for all ages, with books for babyís right up to teens, they also have a good selection of activity books and they often stock seasonal activity books too. In the non-fiction section you can pick up some decent cook books at really low prices (which make nice presents), you will also find craft and hobby books, and even biographies amongst many more choices. The stock is regularly changing as most items sell fast and so they are constantly adding new titles, so itís always worth having a look. You will find titles from popular authors and some top sellers can be found here, there are some real smashers that canít be missed.
Youíd be Ape to miss out on their Bargains
As it is a clearance outlet the titles are somewhat limited, however, there is something for everyone and they have new stock quite regularly, and the site is updated frequently. It is great for picking up bargains, and there are some great deals to be had. You might be lucky and pick up a book that you wanted at a fraction of the price. They have some really good titles, and a lot of popular authors amongst them, and the books are always in pristine condition too. Occasionally they also have promotions where you can get a free gift with your order.

I have picked up some Top Bananas
When I first browsed the site I was amazed at how low the prices were, I could have ordered almost everything. I certainly had no problem filling the basket to easily qualify for the free delivery, as I have two children, and my son is a bit of a bookworm, he will sit for hours flicking through books looking at pictures and he loves having his books read to him, so we can never have enough books. I was excited when my order arrived, I was eager to open it, I purchased several sets of books and some educational books, everything was in pristine condition and it felt like Christmas day as we pulled book after book from this bottomless box. I have since placed several orders and I have been a happy customer each and every time. I have had some great titles and some of which were fairly new releases for less than half their retail value.
I spent £25 on my last order to qualify for free delivery as there were quite a few books I wanted and a fair few bargains that I couldnít resist, some of which were sets of books, so when the package arrived I was amazed at the huge and heavy box that was filled to the top with books, amazing value for money and I find it great for buying books around Christmas time as I can buy a lot of books and split them up and not spend much at all.
I usually have a quick look on there before ordering books to see if they have any of the titles I am after. I like to receive emails about their new titles as this means I donít miss out on anything. I have had a couple of big orders from here now, as well as a couple of smaller orders when I have had free delivery codes. I have had some fantastic deals, and I have picked up a lot of seasonal activity books at a fraction of the price. We have so many books now that I need an extra room to convert it into a library. I have to admit that I end up buying titles that I wouldnít have if it wasnít for the free delivery, however, all the books I have ordered from here have been enjoyable, and well read.
Although they are a clearance outlet, they still have an excellent selection, so it is worth a look. Bananas is a great site for picking up some excellent books at bargain prices, it is particularly good for parents as they stock a vast selection of childrenís books to suit all ages, and the seasonal books are always worth looking out for as they can be found at a fraction of their retail price. This is a good site to visit come the holiday season as you can find plenty of titles for gifts to suit anyone. I highly recommend this site, however, do be warned that you will end up with lots and lots of books for a small amount of money, as you just canít help but fill your basket.
Bananas that are ripe for the picking, don't monkey around, grab yourself a bargain or two.
