PC Specialist.co.uk @ Reasonable Prices

Advantages: Top Spec Machine for a Reasonable Price
Disadvantages: Purchase made by cheque/bankers draft/paypal - no credit cards.

I had owned my trusty HP Pavilion 1GHZ desktop computer since the turn of the century - (1999 to be exact, but turn of the century sound good doesn't it?) But, it was time to upgrade. I was quite happy with the machine taking the best part of whole morning to render my home videos ready to burn to DVD, but when I read in a Digital Photography magazine that effectively to edit and burn videos a processor of at least 2 GHZ (3+ recommended) and memory ...
...it was time to upgrade. Off to the local shops, but what a shock I had when I realised that it wasn't just a case of a couple of hundred pounds to get the "powerhouse" of my dreams but more like £1000 plus! So I gave up the idea and decided to look in Micro Mart, (one of the more reasonably priced computer magazines that can be bought for under £2).

Thumbing through it and being quite mechanically minded, I thought I would ... more

PC Specialist.co.uk

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Dreadful customer and after sales service.

I bought a laptop from pcspecialist.co.uk in December 2007 and it hasn't worked properly EVER! It is now January 2009!!! They have the worst customer service and after sales service I have ever come across. They're incompetence is surpassed by none. This may seem like a lot to read, but if you're contemplating buying anything from pcspecialist.co.uk, you'd be very wise to read on… Shortly after I got the laptop it began to freeze up over and over ...
...must be a hard drive problem because I was also having a lot of latency problems (slow running programs and delays in events happening etc). They said they'd send me out a new hard drive, which they did several weeks later but it was desktop hard drive, not a laptop hard drive. Another week later the correct hard drive arrived but the problems were still the same. I contacted pcspecialist.co.uk again and they told me that the problems must be caused ...

Great price, poor quality

Advantages: Good spec for the price
Disadvantages: Very poor build quality, poor customer service, time-consuming

PC Specialist seem to be really good value for money in relation to their specifications however the likelihood of having to spend so much more on righting their faults makes the overall cost huge. Their team aren't very helpful and do not sound at all interested on the phone. My experience with them: So, I ordered a laptop from PC Specialist in January this year, my budget was £500 but was advised by a friend (who recommended the company to me) ...
...up my budget. I ended up getting a great spec for £785 and chose the collect&return for the 1 year warranty (good job!). Received the laptop in February, not too long after the expected build time, the top of the laptop was slightly scratched but as I wasn't there to receive the laptop I figured PC Specialist would say that I should have checked before signing for it, so I left it be. Everything else was great, the appearance was much better than ...

Great! Plays Flight Sim @ ultra high quality

Advantages: Easy ordering, UK call centre, the cheapest I could find!
Disadvantages: Production times can be slow

My old computer was about 5 years old and was getting to the point where some major component would fail any moment. I started research as to what components of a new computer I needed and which company to go with. There were lots of appealing organizations. I was originally going to go with Dell, despite their terrible support. But fortunately I stumbled across pcspecialist. I was a bit skeptical about their prices and legitimacy. But after reading ...
...was more confident and began picking my components. I was amazed at the level of customization offered, and the prices, both far superior to others in the market. For those of you interested, I ended up purchasing the following specifications: Core 2 Duo E8400, Asus P5K Motherboard, 2GB 800MHz XMS RAM, nVidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB, Vista Ultimate on a 160GB Hard Drive. It took about 12 working days to deliver. It stayed in pre-production for ...

Was skeptical but this is a Dream Machine

Advantages: Fast, Cheap, Well Built and Well Laid out.
Disadvantages: Site cannot calculate prive dynamically.... but thats not so bad.

I was looking for a good computer that would last me another 10 years as my previous computer was getting on a bit and the motherboard eventually kicked the bucket after years of abuse. Obviously I was looking for something that would last 10 years so I needed something at lest of a medium spec but I was also on a tight budget as my dad would be the one buying me this computer and the cheeper it was, the more likely he was to accept the one I had ...
...I looked at Dell as a starting point and many online benchmarks, thoroughly researched components and their power to cost ratio while searching out the minimum specs I needed. I decided on a Intel Core 2 quad, hopefully the 6600 or the 9400, an Asus P5* motherboard and some basic graphics card to tide me over and this setup from Dell cost something in the region of £1000. Way too much. I then checked other companies like Mesh (sells custom to Comet), ...
