Need a new Email address and want to get paid for using it? Well, READ ON...
ZWALLET is another of the many Free Webmail services you can find on the internet, BUT It pays you to use it. The company have been providing the service for around 10 months at present and I have been using it as my main webmail account for the past four months.
>>>>So why open a webmail account?
Very useful if you need to check your email and your ISP uses ‘Outlook Express’. Your regular email address is only available for you to check from your home computer. You cannot access your mail from the office, or if you are away. I know that there are a couple of services whereby you can hook up with your ‘POP3’
mail from an outside source, but I don’t know how reliable these services are. Anyway it is often useful to have other email accounts – additional to your ‘personal’ ISP one – and utilise them for your particular needs. For example, I use my zwallet addy for my Auction trading and one or two other things besides. I have a couple of ‘hotmail’ addresses which are used to sign up for ‘Rewards programs’ – so if I get spammed, it does not block up an important mailbox.
Also as zwallet is not one of the ‘big players’ yet, you can probably get your choice of name – unlike with yahoo, excite, hotmail, lycos, where they have millions of users and your name – however quirky - may have already been taken.
>>>>So How do I get paid?
Zwallet claim that they will pay members once they have $20 in their account – by cheque. No difference for overseas members, like ourselves. I’m not certain about whether they have actually paid members yet. But the way I look at it is that it would be a bonus. The system itself is very useful and you can also add to the tally on your account be referring other people and getting ‘paid’ for a proportion of their useage. You get a running total of your stats – updated throughout the day – by clicking on ‘Account Info’. Email Rewards Program… – Page Views – Primary Referrals Page Views – Secondary Referrals Page views
This, in turn, is converted at a later date to $ and cents and Zwallet state that “We share part of our advertising revenue with our members – 40% to the member, 5% to your Primary referrals and a further 2% thru’ three more levels of ‘Secondary referrals PLUS Eligible users of Email Rewards Program will be credited up to 10,000 page views per month. This means that if you will view more than 10,000 pages with advertisements, you will only be credited for the first 10,000 views. You will also be credited up to 10,000 page views for each of your referrals. There is no limit on the total number of page views that you will be credited for your referrals”
>>>>So, what facilities do they offer?
Pretty standard utilities for an email account. You can send attachments, add your own email ‘signature’ to outgoing mail. You can build up your address book and create folders to store different types of your mail i.e I have a seperate folder for ‘amazonauctions, ‘yahoo auctions’ and ‘ebay’. One thing that I have noticed is that unlike certainly ‘hotmail’, Zwallet has been virtually ‘spam-free’ – another big plus point with this type of service. The storage size of the mailbox is pretty standard – but for those ‘techies’ out there that want to know, I lievlieve it is around the 5mb size. I know that I have well over 500 emails stored in folders (maybe I should clear them out?) and am around 60% of capacity – if that helps.
>>>>Other services
You can also sign up for their Rewards Plus Program – which is just the same as a ‘Paid to read Email’ scheme except you get sent them automatically to your mailbox. Again, they do not stipulate a rate ‘per email’, but the fact they are introducing this service means their advertising revenue is increasing, so hopefully the ‘pot’ with which to share with members will increase accordingly. They have recently offered members the ‘Free Drive’ facility - FREE 50 Megabyte Drive, with which you can upload, back-up, retrieve and share your data. There are other versions of this and alternative websites that offer this service, but it’s nice to have this facility built in to this already pretty decent service.
>>>>Summary
ZWALLET Is basically a webmail service – pure and simple. With the additions mentioned above included, but it does not offer, like some of their competition a more comprehensive information service. It does not offere a ‘home page’ facility and does not provide News and other features often sen in the likes of ‘Yahoo, ‘Hotmail etc. If you want a no-frills, reliable webmail services with a few ‘extras’ thrown in, then it could PAY you to try zwallet.

Advantages: Free, pays for reading and sending mail, easy to sign up, easy to use. Disadvantages: Service appears unreliable for incomming mail, 2Mb mailbox limit.
